DON'T CLICK ON A REFUND DEPOSIT TEXT FROM THE CRA

It's the latest scam - a text message shows up on your phone with a refund from the Canada Revenue Agency.
Don't be fooled. The CRA will never send you a tax refund via text message.
Do not click on the link. Do not enter your bank information and password.
Ignore the link and protect yourself.

CRA sets dangerous precedent by applying proceeds of crime provisions to tax evaders

If you are cheating on your taxes, the CRA may seek a court order to freeze and seize your assets. This could be your home, your cottage, your cars, your investment accounts... anything that reasonably can be deemed to have been purchased with the money that should have been paid as tax.

While the CRA admits to having invoked this provision only once, it's likely the beginning of a new modus operandi. It's certainly a wake up call for tax scofflaws.

And once the CRA is successful on large, trophy files, it won't be long before the Taxman starts applying the same theory to go after ordinary people like you.
