We told you so, !

It looks like your unwavering support for the genocide in Gaza cost you this election. Voters in Michigan and Wisconsin tried to get your attention until the last moments, but your arrogance stood in the way. Was it worth it?

Trump: “in springfield, they’re eating the dogs. they’re eating the pets.”

America, why is this guy even in the race?!?

If he wins, it will be on the Democrats for not stopping the funding of a massacre in Gaza.

Join us, and please share with your networks, for CSRR’s first (virtual) lecture this year “Broken - The Failed Promise of Muslim Inclusion” featuring Professor Evelyn AlSultany on Wednesday September 11 at 12 pm EDT.

Amid pervasive institutionalized Islamophobia, diversity initiatives in universities and workplaces have failed on their promise to be inclusive of Muslims. Professor Evelyn Alsultany offers a critical examination of recent initiatives to foster diversity and inclusion at universities during Israel’s war on Gaza.

Professor Evelyn Alsultany
A professor at the University of Southern California is a leading expert on the history of representations of Arabs and Muslims in U.S. media.

Justice in Jeopardy: The Role of Police, Prosecutors, and Politics in the Umar Zameer Case

The tragic events surrounding the death of Constable Jeffrey Northrup have raised serious concerns about the actions of police leadership, prosecutors, and political figures in Toronto. From the onset, key police leaders expressed skepticism about the murder charge against Umar Zameer, yet the prosecution proceeded based on questionable eyewitness accounts from the officers involved. This decision, coupled with later evidence showing contradictions in the testimonies of three officers, highlights the troubling role of these officials in potentially influencing the case's trajectory. Even more concerning is the trial judge's post-verdict remarks suggesting the possibility that officers lied to present themselves in a better light, which could have had devastating consequences for Zameer.

The political response to this case was also flawed, with public figures like then-Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw, Toronto Mayor John Tory, and Premier Doug Ford prematurely condemning Zameer, contributing to an atmosphere of public outrage and mistrust. In contrast, the judge played a pivotal remedial role, delivering a fair verdict based on evidence rather than emotion and even apologizing to Zameer for what he endured. The judge's stance reflects the justice system's integrity despite external pressures.

Going forward, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) must conduct a thorough, unbiased review of the officers' conduct, testimony, and the broader failures in leadership throughout this case. This investigation is necessary to restore public confidence and ensure accountability for the actions that led to this unjust prosecution. The justice system worked as intended in acquitting Zameer, but those responsible for the failures in this case must be held accountable.

Thank you, and , for this excellent story.

Incredibly proud of my friend , who fought through all of this and obtained justice for Zameer.

My latest for the :

"This summer’s riots in the U.K., ignited by misinformation following the tragic stabbing of three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on July 29, are a stark reminder of how quickly social cohesion can unravel, even in stable democracies. This violence, marked by racist attacks, arson and looting, resulted in dozens of injured police officers, over 1,000 arrests, and more than 100 people jailed.

While the attacker was a 17-year-old born in Cardiff, Wales, fake news on social media and messaging apps falsely claimed he was a recently arrived Muslim asylum seeker. This misinformation, combined with pre-existing anti-immigration and anti-foreigner sentiment, fear-mongering by politicians, the growth of far-right groups and the stoking of flames by social media influencers, led to the worst xenophobic violence in the U.K. and Northern Ireland in over a decade.

This should serve as a cautionary tale for Canada, often perceived as a haven of multiculturalism. In reality, the conditions that fuelled the U.K. riots — rapid demographic shifts, rising hate and polarization, and the spread of misinformation — are present here too. If left unaddressed, they could easily ignite unrest in Canadian cities.

….

To prevent such a scenario, Canada must take proactive measures to promote genuine integration and understanding among diverse communities, fostering mutual respect through community programs and inclusive policies.

As a society we must hold political and social leaders accountable for divisive rhetoric, condemning language that promotes fear and division.

Simultaneously, we must counter the rise of far-right groups through law enforcement, community outreach, and education to prevent radicalization.

Lastly, we must combat misinformation by holding social media platforms accountable and improving public education to help discern reliable information from fake news.

A good start would be to do some heavy lifting now to implement the 33 recommendations of The Rise of Ideologically Motivated Violent Extremism in Canada, a report of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security published in June 2022. Not much has been heard about this report since it came off the press.

The U.K. riots are a wake-up call for Canada. We must recognize the warning signs and take action to address the underlying issues that could lead to similar unrest here."

Over the years, I've received more than my fair share of hate mail and even threats. Now and then, some haters really go the extra mile. Someone recently printed out my article, added their racist and bigoted comments, put it in an envelope, and mailed it. Now, that’s some serious dedication!

I see it as a badge of honor—a reminder to keep doing the right thing, no matter what.

Alcohol Kills and Professional Sports is Complicit!

“Last night we lost two husbands, two fathers, two sons, two brothers, two family members, two teammates, two friends but truly two amazing humans,” wrote Jim Gaudreau, mourning the deaths of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau after a drunk driver, Sean Higgins, crashed into their car last Thursday. This tragedy is a painful reminder of the devastating impact of alcohol-related accidents, which claimed over 13,500 lives in 2022 alone.

While gun-related deaths in the U.S. often dominate the news, with 20,958 murders in 2021, alcohol-impaired driving fatalities remain a similarly grim statistic, making up 32% of all driving fatalities. Alcohol is responsible for over 178,000 deaths annually, yet its availability and societal acceptance persist, largely due to the belief that Prohibition failed.

The contrast between the battles over gun control and the lack of action on alcohol is stark. Both substances are deadly, yet society has been more willing to accept the risks associated with alcohol. This is despite evidence that alcohol use disorder, long-term health problems, and impaired driving are leading causes of preventable deaths. It’s time to confront the reality that alcohol, like guns, poses a significant threat to public safety.

Beyond traffic fatalities, alcohol contributes significantly to domestic violence, with studies showing that excessive drinking is a major factor in nearly half of all violent incidents at home. Alcohol lowers inhibitions and impairs judgment, often leading to situations where conflicts escalate into violence. The impact of alcohol on families is profound, leading to broken homes, trauma for children, and long-term psychological scars for all involved. These domestic issues are part of the broader social harms caused by alcohol, which also include sexual assaults, child abuse, and financial instability.

The relationship between sports and the alcohol industry is particularly troubling, given that Johnny and Matthew were athletes. In 2020 alone, the alcohol industry spent more than $600 million on sports sponsorships worldwide, according to Statista. Bud Light, for instance, had an annual sponsorship budget of $249.7 million, making it the industry's biggest spender on sports advertising. A 2020 Rugby Six Nations Championship study revealed an alcohol reference every 12 seconds on average during each game. Just this summer, Labatt Breweries of Canada and the National Hockey League (NHL®) announced a multiyear Canadian partnership, which includes Budweiser becoming an Official Beer of the NHL in Canada.

Ironically, athletes aiming to perform at the professional or elite level often avoid alcohol during the season or intense training to optimize performance and recovery.

The Gaudreaus' tragic deaths should serve as a call to action. We need to reconsider the leniency with which alcohol is regulated and explore more effective ways to reduce its harm, whether through stricter sales controls, higher penalties for impaired driving, or even revisiting the idea of prohibition in a modern context. The lives lost to alcohol-related accidents, domestic violence, and other alcohol-fueled crimes are not just statistics; they are human beings, often innocent people who did not even see it coming. It is time to take a hard look at alcohol's role in our society and make meaningful changes to protect our communities.

The post below is very powerful.

According to the Encyclopedia Britannica:

"Gauze, light, open-weave fabric made of cotton when used for dressings and of silk and other fibres when used for dress trimming. The name is derived from that of the Palestinian city of Gaza, where the fabric is thought to have originated. It is made either by a plain weave or by a leno weave."
