Why Having a Will is Crucial
At Wilhelm Family Law, we understand that planning for the future can feel overwhelming, but one key step you should never overlook is having a Will. Without it, your assets may not be distributed the way you intend, and your loved ones could face unnecessary legal complications.
When you die without a Will the law decides how your property and assets are divided. This often leads to outcomes that may not reflect your true wishes.
For example:
• Spouses: While your spouse may receive a portion of your estate, the division can be complicated depending on your assets, debts, and whether you have children. The default rules may not prioritize your spouse's needs in the way you would have hoped.
• Minor Children: If you have young children, dying without a Will can leave critical decisions (like guardianship) to the courts. Without a legally designated guardian, the court could appoint someone you wouldn’t have chosen, or the process could be delayed, leaving your children in limbo.
Take control of your legacy today. Having a Will ensures your assets are distributed according to your wishes, your spouse is properly provided for, and your children’s future is secured.
