It’s been a week since Day 1 of the Africa Real Estate Festival in Accra, and one idea is still living rent-free in my head:
“Remittances for asset building, not remittances for consumption.”
As a Nigerian-Canadian realtor, that line reframed something I’ve been doing for years without putting words to it — helping diaspora clients move beyond sending money home and start building real, generational assets there.
A few things I’ve been sitting with since:
• Africa isn’t the “next” real estate market — it’s the now market
• Cross-border capital flows only unlock when legal frameworks are transparent
• The diaspora is finally being treated as a serious investor class, not just a sentimental one
Grateful I got to experience Day 1 with my team, and even more grateful for the conversations that have continued long after we left the room.
