Does anyone else have weather whiplash after these last few days? Because we sure do! ❄⛈❄⛈

If you're pretty much anywhere in Ontario, you've been going through it weather wise over the past 3 days, and we are certainly right here with ya, here in south-western Ontario! The worst part - it's not even close to over 😭

So what does that mean for you folks out in condoland who have leaks from ice damming, hydrostatic pressure or just being the low point in your block with the high volume of rain and a frozen turf? Unfortunately, the answer is that in most cases, we need to wait out the weather before we can safely access the entry point for repairs. And while we are extremely compassionate to the massive amount of inconvenience that can pose to occupants, we need to remember that those who are doing the repairs must be able to do so safely, and the best we can do at the moment is mitigate the issues (if and where possible).

As a reminder, if you are unable to connect to the after-hours paging service, we are monitoring the general voicemail box and all emails during this ongoing weather event. So please do not hesitate to reach out to us via either of these methods if you are experiencing issues with the emergency line. We're here to help! And if nothing else, we hope everyone stays safe and remembers that it’s only 89 days until spring!!

With another strike looming, we’ve suspended mail service for cheque delivery. Please reach out to our office for alternate arrangements.

Hey Vendors! 👋👋👋

With the ongoing Canada Post job action, we know many vendor offices have begun sending out emails with information about alternate forms of payment. As easy and simple as e-transfers are, they are not the cleanest form of payment in condo land (owners reading this, this is also why we do not accept condo fee payments via e-transfer).

Wanting to make sure that our vendors are not being left in a bind, we hit pause on mailing cheques when the strike started as a just in case, but were hopeful it would have resolved quickly. As we don't seem to have an immediate end in sight, we want to give vendors the option to organize alternate forms of payment collection.

For the duration of the strike, we will be doing cheque deliveries on Fridays. We know this might not work for everyone, so if you know Fridays won't work for you, please connect with our office at [email protected] to make alternate arrangements.

If you are reaching out for alternate arrangements, it is critically important you put "(Your Vendor Name) - Alternate Payment Arrangement Needed" in the subject line of your email to make sure our team flags the invoice to pull it from the Friday cheque runs.

If you think you have a payment that is stuck in limbo, please feel free to reach out to either Jessica or Sean to discuss what our options look like in this case.

It’s Election Season here in Canada 🗳️ Which means election signs have popped up pretty much everywhere, including within our condo communities 🪧

And while many condos have rules around signage ‼️ this does not ever extend to official party campaign signs ‼️

It is critically important for all condo communities (and their managers 👀) to be aware of this, as the Elections Act provides all candidates with the right to campaign within condo & multi resident communities - which include the right to be granted access to door knock or campaign otherwise in highrise style communities.

So make sure you tell your building managers to provide access and do not attempt to remove any official campaign signs, because the last thing any condo needs is a legal letter because they removed a candidate’s sign. And of course - don’t forget to vote on April 28th!

It’s contest time 🎉

As you all know, the Eglinton Scott team are huge supporters of our local CCI chapter and always take the opportunity to support their educational efforts here, within our local condo community. Spring has Sprung Friends 🌿

With this, comes our spring clean up and reporting seasons. If you live or own within one of our communities, your newsletters and maintenance reporting surveys are being emailed, with physical copies being sent to those who do not have email. If you missed the survey, head to our bio for to find the 🔗

In addition to all things spring reporting, we’re put together some quick reminders about what folks can expect with respect to spring clean ups within your communities.

‼️ Another good reminder is to be sure you know what your landscaper teams do and do not clean up, and what might be your responsibility as an owner to make sure gets cleaned up within your exclusive use common elements ‼️

We're always so happy when we get an opportunity to support local education within our local condo community, here in London.

Rules enforcement is always such a rich conversation topic within condo communities, and often with very passionate ranges of opinions. If you're involved with a condo community, especially as a director, this is an opportunity you do not want to pass up!

Winter has arrived here in London ❄️☃️❄️

And while the winter wonderland surely is beautiful if you don’t have to go outside, those who have to brave the weather today might not be so excited.

Locally, we have not seen an accumulation like this in sometime. Having been spoiled by very mild winters in recent years. So, it’s important to be patient as we navigate this snow event (and all kind of try to remember what it’s like to deal with the snow).

It’s also equally important to remember to be kind to yourself, your neighbours and your landscapers! You’re all doing the best you can!

Lastly, remember to stay warm! And if you’re braving a shovel, be kind to your body and stretch first. Or at least pre-book with your chiropractor before you go outside (we sure did) 🤭

With nearly 20 years of experience in condo management, Sean has been a key part of CCI London since being elected to the Board in 2018. His background in landscape design and construction helps guide him navigate complex projects, and he continues to support London’s condo community through his involvement in education and events like our annual golf tournament.
