A Peace Bond is not a criminal conviction — but breaching one is a criminal offence.

Under section 810 of the Criminal Code, a Peace Bond is a court order that requires someone to keep the peace and follow conditions for up to 12 months. It’s often used when there’s a fear someone may cause harm, even if no charges have been laid.

Why it matters: Peace Bonds can include conditions like no contact, no weapons, or staying away from certain places. Violating any of those can lead to criminal charges — and a record.

If you’re asked to enter into a Peace Bond or you’re considering applying for one, it’s important to understand what rights and restrictions come with it.

📌A stay is a court order that temporarily halts the enforcement of a decision. In the context of an LTB appeal, a stay can stop an eviction or other enforcement action until the appeal is decided.
