Thanks to everyone for their interest in our administrative assistant position. We received a much larger number of applications than we anticipated, from a lot of qualified people, which made for a tough choice. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to apply.

Folk Law Inc. is looking for an administrative assistant to join our team. Primary duties would be answering phones, greeting clients, attending the bank, seeing to incoming and outgoing mail and other standard administrative tasks. Previous office administrative experience is a definite asset. Please send resumes to [email protected]

We thank everyone for their interest; however we will only be contacting candidates who we decide to interview.

As 2021 draws to a close, I would like to thank my amazing staff and all of our clients for another successful year. I am looking for another real estate lawyer to join the team in 2022. Great opportunity for a younger lawyer to join a busy firm in a beautiful area of the province!

Well, it's that time of year again. After an extremely busy 2021, staff and I will be taking our annual holiday break and the office will be closed from noon on Friday, December 17th to January 5th, 2022.
We will NOT be monitoring phone messages and emails during this time as we take the time to enjoy the holidays and spend time with family and friends.

Thank you to all of our clients for their support and we look forward to working with you in 2022 and beyond.

It's that time of year again. After an extremely busy 2021, staff and I will be taking a much-needed holiday break. The office will be closed from noon on Friday, December 17th, reopening January 5th. We will NOT be monitoring emails and phone messages during this time. We would like to wish all of our clients and friends a very Merry Christmas and wonderful holiday season and we will see you in 2022!

09/29/2021

Our office will be closed on Thursday, September 30th for the national day of reconciliation. We will be open again on Friday, October 1st.

Good morning - unfortunately I have been getting contacted by people in the UK regarding a scam letter they have received that purports to be from my firm. It is not. Anyone who receives such a letter should report it to the relevant authorities and otherwise disregard it. I am taking steps to report and deal with this issue. If you wish to verify the identity of any lawyer from Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society website contains a full directory of all Nova Scotia lawyers.

Dear valued clients: due to the ongoing Covid situation, we must strictly restrict access to the office. Please ensure you call ahead of time and have a scheduled appointment before you come see us. We are conducting as much business as possible over the phone, via email or via videoconference. In cases where we cannot do so, we will schedule an appointment. If you have a scheduled appointment, but you are feeling unwell or are awaiting the results of a Covid test (aside from a voluntary test where you have had no symptoms and no contact with someone who had Covid), please call to reschedule.

If anyone comes to the door and does not have a scheduled appointment, we cannot allow access at this time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

If you have been in the Halifax area in the past 14 days and have an appointment to come in and see us, we would ask that instead you call in advance so we can take alternate measures, such as signing by viedoconference, or meeting outside at a distance of 6 feet or greater. Thank you.

Looking for a change of pace and work-life balance in a great community?

Folk Law Inc. is a growing firm located in Liverpool, on the beautiful South Shore of Nova Scotia. The firm is seeking an associate lawyer who practices family law, or perhaps criminal law and/or litigation, with an opportunity to also build a practice in real estate, wills and estates and other areas. The ideal candidate will have a sense of community and a desire to put down roots in this area of the province. A ‘collaborative’ approach to practice is preferred to a ‘hard-edged’ one. The firm has no billable hours targets; family and life outside of the office are values that are prized on the ‘life’ side of the equation, while excellent client service, but not excessive hours, are the ‘work’ side of work-life balance.

Liverpool, and the South Shore in general, is an amazing part of the province with a lot to offer, especially if you enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, swimming or surfing, and is a great place to raise a family.

Compensation is negotiable; depending on the nature of your practice and your own goals, the firm may be open to a mix of salary and fee splitting, and for a person who is the right fit, an ownership stake down the road would be a possibility.

As we are slowly getting back to a 'new normal' with the Covid situation as a province, so too are things slowly getting back to normal here at the office. The office will be fully staffed as of July 13 and we are open and available, with a few small (but important) changes.

First, we are not accepting 'walk in' clients as we have done in the past. In order to keep staff and clients safe, please call or email us first to set up an appointment. This is to ensure that traffic in the office is kept at a level where staff and clients are appropriately distanced.

Second, if you are looking to come into the office, appointment or not, and are feeling unwell, have traveled outside the Atlantic Provinces in the past 14 days, or have been exposed to anyone who fits those two categories, please postpone your appointment if at all possible. If it is not possible (ie - the appointment is for an upcoming real estate closing and documents must be signed ASAP), then please let us know so we can take appropriate safety measures for distanced signing on our end, and please wear a mask to help keep us safe.

Third, obviously with all the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, I am not in a position to make a new hire as I had planned. I will try to reach out directly to reply to those who followed up, and will provide an update on this page down the road once the Covid situation is (hopefully!) behind us.

Also, I wanted to add that as the Covid situation evolves, things may change yet again. I will certainly be monitoring the situation.

I would like to thank everyone for their understanding and continued patronage and wish everyone health and happiness in these uncertain times.

Effective this coming Monday, staff are going to be home. I will still be working, mostly from home while monitoring emails, but in the office for brief periods. If you need to reach me during this time, email is the BEST way BY FAR to do so - [email protected]

I will still be available and will be visiting the office to check phone messages as often as I can, but I will have continued and constant access to email and will continue serving my clients as best I can primarily via email. Any in-person meetings that are necessary will be conducted with vigorous social distancing measures.

This was not a decision I made lightly but with the growing spread of the Coronavirus in our province it is the best way to keep my clients, staff and myself safe.
