Morrison Reist Krauss LLP, a long-standing and well-respected law firm in Kitchener, Ontario announces a new firm name. They will now be known as Reist Krauss Bauer LLP to reflect the current partners, and have recently relocated to a new boutique office space in downtown Kitchener to accommodate their expanding team and renewed mission to help when “life happens to good people”. CHARLES MORRISON, July 24, 1951 to May 31, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we at Morrison Reist Krauss LLP announce the passing of our dear friend and retired partner, Charles Morrison.

Charles Morrison was one of the two founding partners of our law firm and he served as a cherished partner to Melanie and Pamela until his retirement in 2023. He was a compassionate, supportive and kind man– both in matters of law and of life. He made efforts to ensure we all focused on doing the right thing in our work and lightened the environment on the hardest of days with his humor. Charles was a gracious and easy-going person and together with Melanie Reist created a firm that encouraged values of authenticity and fulfillment in our work with a focus on wellness and family.

We at Morrison Reist Krauss LLP have benefited and grown from the support and encouragement from Charles and we offer our heartfelt condolences to his wife Carey, children Madelaine (Paul), Rachel (Dave) and Mark (Amanda) and their families. We know that Carey and their children and extended family will miss Charles terribly.

Charles retired from the practice of family law in July 2023 after over 40 years of dedication to the profession. In his time away from the office Charles was a dedicated member of the Kitchener Chamber of Commerce and A.R. Kauffman and Stork YMCAs, world traveler, loving spouse, supportive father, grandpa, poet and rapper (do ask when you see one of us).

A drop in Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday June 8, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Westmount Memorial Center located at 1001 Ottawa St S, Kitchener, ON with eulogies to be given at 12pm. The family would appreciate any donations in Charles’ name to go to either the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or the YMCA of Three Rivers.

New Year, New Focus, New Partner

As we ring in the beginning of 2024, Morrison Reist Krauss LLP has successfully transitioned to an employment law boutique firm and is excited to see what change, challenges and successes this year will bring. We have a growing team of lawyers, paralegals, clerks and support staff ready to service the Waterloo and surrounding regions’ employment law needs.

Even more exciting, with this change we are also announcing our valuable legal expert Maxwell Bauer has become our newest firm partner.

Our new partner Max joined Morrison Reist Krauss LLP as an associate lawyer in 2017 and has been a formidable advocate for our clients as well as a fantastic colleague. We anticipate his enthusiasm for employment law and the business of law will be an asset to the partnership and our clients - we welcome him with the utmost of excitement to the partnership.

1. He has practiced in the area of employment law for his entire career having articled with a well-known Toronto labour and employment law firm and was in house at a major financial institution prior to settling in at Morrison Reist Krauss
2. He is a member of the repeat championship team of the Shepherd’s Pub Trivia Night in Elora
3. He is an extreme Blue Jays enthusiast
4. He is a doting father of 2 daughters
5. He has a twin brother who isn’t a twin
6. He has no dietary restrictions
7. He grew up in Conestogo and wanted to be a lawyer since he was a child
8. Despite being taught cursive writing growing up he has horrendous handwriting, in fact it’s so bad it is likely the worst handwriting in Waterloo

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice confirms again that in evaluating the amount of reasonable notice for employees terminated from employment the court expects to see specific evidence of the negative impact of the pandemic on the employee’s particular job market, rather than on the economy generally. (Gracias v. Dr. David Walt Dentistry, 2022 ONSC 2967)
