An active lifestyle and involvement in our community matter to us at Cunningham Swan. Recently, that has included the County Marathon in Prince Edward County, and our annual softball game against MNP.

Special congratulations to Tabi Bastiaan for completing her first half marathon and beating the time she had hoped for!

On the softball field, we didn’t come away with the win against MNP, but we had the MOST fun!

We’re very pleased to welcome Brandan Ignazzitto to Cunningham Swan as an Associate in our Business Law group.

With a background that combines legal practice, business education, and firsthand entrepreneurial experience, Brandan brings a practical perspective to his work with businesses and growing companies.

His experience includes advising start-ups and emerging growth companies through different stages of the corporate lifecycle, as well as working on financings, mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, and other corporate transactions.

After growing up in the Kingston area and later practising at a large international law firm, Brandan has returned home to continue his legal career. We’re glad to have him back in Kingston and part of the Cunningham Swan team.

October Artist Spotlight

Bold colour, expressive brushwork, and a distinctly Canadian landscape perspective are on display at Cunningham Swan this October.

We are pleased to feature the work of local Kingston artist Julie Malette in BR1 throughout the month.

A self-taught artist, Julie creates Canadian contemporary abstract landscapes. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, she explores the relationship between colour, form, and emotion through vibrant palettes, bold brushstrokes, and stylized shapes inspired by the natural world.

We invite you to take a moment to enjoy Julie’s work during your visit.

Laura Dowsley, Associate in our Litigation group, was honoured to present the 2026 OBA Award of Excellence in Insurance Law at the Ontario Bar Association's ceremony on September 24.

As Past-Chair of the OBA's Insurance Law Section, Laura continues to play an active role in the insurance law community across Ontario. Presenting this award was a fitting part of that work.

Congratulations to this year's recipient, David Zuber, on a well-deserved recognition.

Congratulations to Tony Virgin, a Labour and Employment lawyer at Cunningham Swan, on being named one of the 2026 Kingston Young Professionals 40 Under 40 Award recipients.

Tony was recognized alongside this year’s recipients at the September 16 awards celebration. Presented by Kingston Economic Development Corporation, the 40 Under 40 Awards recognize local young professionals for their achievements, innovative contributions, and ability to lead and inspire within their fields.

Tony brings a thoughtful and strategic approach to his practice and has made a strong impression through his work with clients, colleagues, and the Kingston community. We were proud to see those contributions recognized.

We’re very pleased to welcome Noah Karpiak to Cunningham Swan as an Associate in our Labour and Employment group.

From participating in the Hicks Morley Labour and Employment Moot at Queen’s Law to articling with a labour and employment boutique in Ottawa, Noah joins the firm with experience already rooted in his area of practice.

He was also an active member of the Queen’s Law community, including co-founding the Queen’s Cybersecurity and Privacy Club.

We’re looking forward to having Noah as part of the team and seeing him build on that foundation here at Cunningham Swan.

September Artist Spotlight

Some artwork does more than fill a wall. It changes the feeling of a space.

This month, we are pleased to feature the work of Michelle Reid, an award-winning Canadian painter based in Kingston, Ontario.

Michelle is known for bold structural linework, sophisticated colour relationships, and a signature use of backlighting, an approach that has led her work to be described as “bottling light.” Her paintings move between landscapes, urban scenes, and quiet rural subjects, bringing colour, structure, and luminosity into the spaces they inhabit.

Her work has earned national and international recognition, including being selected to represent Canada at the Silk Road: Artists’ Rendezvous cultural exchange in China.

Through our Artist Spotlight series, we are grateful to feature Michelle’s work at the firm and invite our team, clients, and visitors to take a moment to enjoy it during their visit.

We’re very pleased to welcome Lydia Horton to Cunningham Swan as an Associate Lawyer in our Family and General Litigation groups.

Lydia joins us after completing her articles as a Judicial Law Clerk with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Beyond her legal education, she has enjoyed tutoring and volunteering with Braiding Diversity into Justice, the Hamilton Judicial Education Network, and Pro Bono Students Canada.

We’re especially happy that, after choosing to make Kingston home for herself and her family, Lydia has chosen Cunningham Swan as the place to pursue this next step in her career.
