Mother’s Day can hold so many emotions for so many people. 💛

Today I’m thinking of the mothers raising little ones, teenagers and grown children… the grandmothers, stepmothers, bonus moms, adoptive moms, foster moms, pet moms and the women who simply mother through love, kindness and presence.

I’m thinking of those missing their moms today, grieving the loss of a child, healing complicated relationships, longing to become mothers, or quietly carrying heartache while still showing up for others every day.

Motherhood is beautiful, but it is also stretching, humbling and ever-changing.

As I reflect today, I feel incredibly grateful for my own big, beautiful blended family — my 4 children, 2 stepdaughters and 6 growing grandchildren. Watching generations grow and evolve has taught me that motherhood never really gets easier… it simply changes.

One of the greatest skills a mother learns is how to continually adapt into the parent each child needs you to be in that season of life. Learning when to simply listen, when to gently advise, and when to just be the sounding board matters deeply. Sometimes you want to say “don’t do that” because life experience tells you where the road may lead… but you also realize you spent years teaching them for these very moments — and now you must trust them to walk their own path.

If I know anything for certain, it’s this:
Motherhood will test you.
It will grow you.
It will break your heart open wider than you ever imagined.
It will teach patience, resilience and unconditional love in ways nothing else can.

And no matter how old they are, your children remain in your thoughts every single day until your very last breath.

To all the mothers and mother figures today — in every form that may take — I’m sending you love. 💐
