Such an inspiring event at TRU Law! ⚖️

Thank you to our incredible panelists Hugh MacInnes, Ayla Salyn, Carolyn Janusz, Shuada Ahmed, Evelyn Izsak, and Gurkamal Aujla for taking the time to share their journeys into human rights law and offer such thoughtful advice to students.

The panel brought together three lawyers and three TRU law students, creating a really meaningful conversation about different pathways into the field. From practical recruiting tips to honest reflections on interviews, mentorship, and student experiences, the discussion left us feeling informed, motivated, and excited about the possibilities ahead.

Hi Everyone! 🩵

The Human Rights Law Club is excited to share that we will be hosting free Narcan training (in collaboration with the TRU Wellness Centre) on Thursday, February 12th at 1:00pm in OM 3612. 🏥

📌 What is Narcan? Narcan (or Naloxone) is a medication used to reverse or reduce the effects of opioid overdose.

📌 Each participant will learn how to safely administer Narcan and will receive a kit to take home.

Attention TRU Law Students! Want to start a career in human rights Law?

The TRU Human Rights Law Club is excited to announce the first career panel featuring local Kamloops lawyers who will share their experience, how to find work and what to expect. Wondering how to get involved as a student? Featured in our panel will be three current TRU students sharing their recruiting experience, interview advice, and what to expect as a student in the field.

The event will take place January 23 in the reading room at 10 AM. We look forward to seeing you there.

In October, the Human Rights Club were thrilled to host our annual Pit Stop event!💙

We set up stations with food, drinks, clothing, hygiene products, and other essentials, while volunteers packed goodie bags and served hot meals to our unhoused community members. Guests were welcomed inside to enjoy a warm meal and choose any donated items they needed.

The Human Rights Law Club is collaborating with PIT Stop to help feed those in need!
PIT Stop is hosting a Thanksgiving Dinner on Sunday, October 12th.

Volunteers are needed for the following roles:
- Kitchen (259 Victoria St. W – Rosethorn Kitchen): 5 volunteers from 12:00–3:00 p.m.
- Goody Bag Prep (Kia Lounge – Sandman Centre): Volunteers from 12:00–3:00 p.m.
- Dinner Service at Kia Lounge: Volunteers from 3:00–6:00 p.m.

This is a great opportunity to give back to the community in a hands-on way!!!

We invite you to attend Clubs Day (today at 3:30pm to 5pm in the Atrium) to sign up as a General Member, or to apply as an Exec! The following Exec positions are available: Communications Assistant, Marketing Assistant, and Finance Assistant.

✨ Human Rights Law Club – Narcan Event Recap! ✨
🩵 Last week, the Human Rights Law Club (in collaboration with the TRU Wellness Centre) hosted an incredible and informative Narcan training event! We had a great turnout and learned valuable skills about how to recognize and respond to opioid overdoses using Narcan (naloxone).

✅ How to identify the signs of an overdose
✅ Proper administration of Narcan
✅ The importance of harm reduction and breaking the stigma around substance use
