Outside court, a stern Anderson stood silently with her father and defence lawyer, Vikram Singh.

“This was a horrific case with extenuating circumstances and all parties worked very hard throughout the process to come to the resolve where it’s at now,” Singh said.

Singh said Anderson, who was out on bail briefly over the four years, “has to absorb quite of bit of the changes in her life . . . there’s going to be a period of time for her to transition back into the community.”

The brother testified — under questions from Anderson’s lawyer, Vikram Singh, who had called the man to the stand — that his sister became more agitated and shaky in June 2013 after the sentencing had been delayed.

What led to the retrial of a London couple, charged with torturing their roommate, was concern from the alleged victim’s brother that she had lied about how she had been so horribly burned.

But Anderson, who, with Rick, lived with the woman for about three years, said nothing like that ever happened. She insisted it was a happy, supportive arrangement that everyone enjoyed.

Through questions from her defence lawyer, Vikram Singh, she said she has known Rick since high school.

A re-trial was ordered after the woman's brother came forward to police and said the woman had told him all her injuries were self-inflicted.

She went on to describe three instances where Rick and Anderson poured boiling water on her from an electric kettle – to her left shoulder, her back and upper leg.

“I still got the scar there,” she said.

“I'm suggesting you did it to yourself,” Williams [Anderson's defence lawyer] said.

The 29-year old woman who is central in a case of alleged torture by her former roommates had never had an emotional breakdown while testifying at either of the two previous Superior Court trials until Monday.

A video game director who maintained he was only tickling his 11-year-old victim was sentenced to six months in jail for s*xual interference and unlawful confinement Thursday.

McCulloch pleaded not guilty to the charges. He told his lawyer, Vikram Singh, he intends to appeal the decision.

Cross-examination by the defence was supposed to start Friday, but Anderson’s lawyer, Norman Williams, asked for an adjournment.

The case will return to court Jan. 28 to argue a defence application.

Testimony from a woman who says she was tortured by her roommates stalled Friday when the defence asked for time to review new information.

She started her testimony clinging to claims that she alone was responsible for her monstrous injuries from scalding water, lighter fluid and whippings.

But by the end of Thursday, the 29-year-old woman returned to much of her original testimony from an earlier trial — that her two roommates had tortured her routinely, punished her with pain and kept her locked away.

The instructions from her roommates were clear: if she ever saw a a doctor and was asked how she sustained gruesome burns and whip marks, the woman was supposed to say she did it to herself.
