What happens when the world changes faster than your real estate strategy?

Our 2026 Newsletter explores the forces reshaping Canadian real estate — and what they mean for property owners, investors, municipalities, and developers.

One of those forces is technology. As the real estate landscape evolves, so too does Geographic Information Systems (GIS), creating new opportunities to understand markets, properties, and communities through data.

At Turner Drake & Partners, our Economic Intelligence Unit is continually finding new ways to leverage GIS technology to support our clients. In this issue, our GIS Coordinator, Colin Rennie, takes us behind the scenes of some of Turner Drake’s standout GIS projects, exploring the purpose behind each project and how GIS helped bring valuable insights to the table.

Curious about how GIS can support your real estate strategy? Read the full article in our Summer 2026 Newsletter today: https://www.turnerdrake.com/tdp-newsletter-vol-02-no-137/

Quality framing is imperative when building a house. When done well, the walls, roof system, and foundation will all bear weight evenly, allowing the structure to carry loads and bare weight. This support will allow the house to withstand weather and time. Without proper framing, everything will crumble.

Housing strategy is similar to house framing. Not because they both include the word "house", but because without the proper groundwork during planning stage, communities will crumble under the weight of unexpected change, rising costs of living, and supply-and-demand imbalances.

In the latest Turner Drake Case Study, we discuss how our Planning Division can deliver actionable affordable housing strategies for public-sector clients. Our housing strategies lay the framework for data-driven decision making.

This success story highlights the achievements of our GIS team and how we apply our expertise to solve clients' problems. Our client needed a deeper understanding of their development sites potential. We are pleased to announce that the HNA Blueprint Website is now live!

The HNA Blueprint was developed through the Government of Canada’s federal Research and Knowledge Initiative, in partnership with the Government of Prince Edward Island. As a free resource, the HNA Blueprint was designed to support more accessible, consistent, and standardised Housing Needs Assessments across Canada. The website features core tools and resources produced throughout the project including:

• Report Templates
• Guidebooks
• Datasets
• Methodologies
• Supporting Tools and Resources

Communities across Canada can use and build on this comprehensive package to streamline their local and regional housing analysis. The current version of the Blueprint uses data available as of May 2026. As new data is released - including 2026 Census information - the Blueprint and its datasets will be updated.

The tools are organized around Census Subdivision-level geographies, but we recognize that some communities may need different geographies or combined areas. If that applies to you, reach out — we are happy to help identify the right materials as part of the HNA Blueprint initiative.
