If you are looking for an articling student position or you are or are about to be a junior lawyer, and are interested in practicing litigation (criminal and civil) in Northeastern Ontario, or if you know someone who is, please send me a resume. Our offices are located in Haileybury on beautiful Lake Temiskaming but the practice could take you on cases and jails anywhere in Ontario. Travel and driving when the courts open up again fully will be required. Covid has created a unique backlog of cases when the courts do open up again and I need help with them but there was a need for good lawyers in this area before Covid and it will continue after Covid. The Haileybury court may be opening in the next few weeks. The Kirkland Lake court will take longer. I will announce when the court will re-open but not all matters will be in person still as the court will be strictly limiting the number of occupants in the building. If you are my client or witness I will let you know if you need to appear in person and if you are represented by another lawyer I advise you make contact now. If you are required to be in court in person you will need to bring your own mask and water bottle as the fountains will be closed.

During the pandemic our office is closed to the public for in-person meetings. We are still available though by phone, email and fax. The criminal courts are still figuring out how we will move forward. All Superior Court matters have been or will be automatically adjourned unless we are told otherwise. I will keep my clients informed about any dates once known. The Ontario Court of Justice has been working trying to address urgent and emergency issues such as bail hearings and pleas for people in jail. We are working remotely and working out the kinks still. I am working diligently to get my clients out of custody as it would be a dangerous environment for a virus to spread to people in vulnerable conditions. If you need assistance, I am still available and we are making arrangements for video conferencing and remote court attendances for all. I am sure if this is expected to go on for long, we will have further updates and will have to figure out how to deal with the out of custody matters at some point. I will keep you posted. Be well. Position Filled

My law clerk is following her heart and moving South. I am looking for someone full-time but would consider 32 hours a week. The position involves a lot of responsibility to run the office and keep me organized. Related education or experience a must. Knowledge of PCLaw an asset. Back in Toronto again for another jury trial. This year was the year of the jury trial for me. I think by year end it will be 3 long ones and 5 short ones.
