Finally made it to GROUND FLOOR ARTS to check out the prints in their shop.

We were so excited to find this linocut print titled "Mars Food" by Toronto artist Phoebe Todd-Parrish (Phoebe Todd-Parrish) - a diner in our old Yonge/Eglington neighbourhood. ❤️

If you've ever had thier banana bread french toast or smoked meat hash, you know how unforgettable it is.

June/July sped by way too darn fast.

We've enjoyed such an awesome start to a summer that has seen...

Our first annual west end yard sale (the mini makers were a huge highlight (including our own melty bead and slime sellers!)

It means a qualified third party (not just you, not just your contractor) has confirmed the work meets the Ontario Building Code.

That matters in two ways:

Safety, right now — for you and your family

Resale, down the road — buyers want confidence not questions before they write an offer

And whenever you do decide to sell, keeping your permit paperwork organized turns into a real selling point — it tells buyers exactly what they're getting.

Here's a homework assignment for every home buyer:

Before you fall for a listing, check its permit history.

The City of Guelph's permit search tool is free, public, and doesn't require an account, just the property address.

Here's what to look for:
• Open or unclosed permits (a sign work was never confirmed to meet code)
• Permits for anything visibly updated — additions, finished basements, decks
• A specific permit for any "legal" accessory apartment or basement suite

If something doesn't add up, that's not necessarily a dealbreaker, it just means it's time to ask questions.

Being an informed buyer isn't about being suspicious. It's about knowing exactly what you're buying.

Garden centre season is here, which means it’s very easy to fall in love with something pretty in a pot and figure out the details later.

But before you bring it home, ask:

Will this plant actually like living in my yard?

A few things to check:

🍃 Hardiness zone
This matters most for perennials, shrubs, and trees — the plants you expect to come back year after year. For the Guelph area, Zone 5 or colder is usually a safer bet.

☀️ Sun exposure
This matters for everything: perennials, annuals, veggies, planters, hanging baskets… all of it.

🐌 Soil and moisture
Hot and dry? Damp and heavy? Shady and clay? Match the plant to the actual spot.

🌲 Mature size
That cute little shrub may want to be six feet wide. Read the tag, then believe it.

🌻 Native or non-invasive
Fast-growing can be great. It can also mean “taking over.”

Pretty is lovely.

But the real win is choosing plants that actually suit your yard.
