Today, Mr. Justice Rooke released his decision regarding the sentence he was imposing on Shawn Beaver after finding him in Contempt of Court for practicing law after he had been disbarred.

While this decision by Justice Rooke does not have any bearing on what may happen to Beaver if he goes to trial for stealing his client's money (and mine), it is still a relief.

Beaver is going to jail for a year.

it is now official, Shawn Beaver, the lawyer I went to law school with and whom I worked with following my heart transplant surgery has now been disbarred by the Law Society of Alberta for a variety of offences including misappropriating trust funds. He now faces the possibility of criminal charges.

Here in a nutshell is what we (we being the other lawyers and staff of Beaver's ex-firm) have been dealing with for the past two years. I would give my opinion of Shawn's excuses but the language I would use would be considered wildly inappropriate for this or any other platform
