Alberta’s energy workers deserve a huge thank you. Our province is setting new production records, with output averaging up 4.2% with more than 4.2 million barrels a day in 2025, the highest levels ever recorded.

To every rig hand, geologist, engineer, control room operator, truck driver, pipefitter, welder, tradesperson, camp cook, and everyone else who helps power Canada’s economy— thank you!

BREAKING:
The Alberta and Canadian governments have reached a historic agreement that will unleash the Alberta energy sector, create tens of thousands of jobs, and attract billions in new investment.
This deal includes the potential for an additional 1.4 million barrels-per-day in pipeline capacity to the west coast, almost tripling Alberta oil exports to Asian markets.
Ottawa has also agreed to drop the oil and gas production cap and suspend the Net-Zero power regs, so Alberta can focus on reducing emissions through our TIER system and world-leading CCUS technology instead.
Although this is a massive win for Alberta and Canada, we will still hold the federal government accountable for keeping their end of the bargain.

The Bank of Canada just cut its key interest rate by 0.25%.

Here’s what it means 👇
🏡 Variable-rate mortgages → Monthly payments should dip as lenders lower prime rates (most to 4.70%, TD at 4.85%).
📊 Fixed-rate mortgages → No immediate change, but bond markets may shift in response.
💳 Lines of credit & loans tied to prime → Borrowing costs will ease slightly.

🔜 The next Bank of Canada rate decision is October 29, 2025. Stay tuned—economic data between now and then will guide the path forward.

To all my clients with kiddos from Kindergarden to Grade 12. Best to be prepared for this looming strike...

The Alberta Teachers’ Association has announced it will be delivering official strike notice later this week. If no agreement is reached, job action will begin on Monday, October 6, 2025. At this time, we don’t know what form the job action will take. It could be a full strike, rotating strike, or work-to-rule.

Classes will continue as usual in the days leading up to October 6. Students should attend school as they normally would.

What Families Need to Know
We understand this news may be difficult for families. This possibility of job action has the potential to disrupt learning, impact routines, childcare, and work schedules.

Because the nature of the job action is not yet known, we encourage families to begin planning for alternate arrangements. If job action takes the form of a full strike, all classes will be cancelled, and students will not attend school in person or online. There will be no instruction, supervision, or extracurricular activities. This will also be the case if our schools are impacted in a rotating strike.

We want to acknowledge the essential role teachers and staff play in our schools. Their care, commitment, and daily contributions to students and families are deeply valued. Edmonton Catholic Schools respects the collective bargaining process and remains hopeful that an agreement can be reached without disruption to teaching and learning.

Teacher bargaining in Alberta takes place at the provincial level between the ATA and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA). Edmonton Catholic Schools is not directly involved in this process.
