Resilient Administration in Challenging Times focuses on increasing awareness of the pressures inherent in municipal leadership roles, exploring common sources of stress and conflict, and equipping participants with practical tools and strategies to navigate challenges with confidence and resilience.

This workshop is part of a broader initiative developed to strengthen resilience, communication, and conflict management capacity across Alberta's municipal sector. The program includes participant resources, facilitator supports, and train-the-trainer materials that can support future local delivery opportunities. ABmunis is pleased to offer this specialized training session for municipal administrators in partnership with RMA.

Build a more resilient community with the Adaptation Implementation Cohort.

Alberta Municipalities is seeking expressions of interest from municipalities and Indigenous governments to participate in the Adaptation Implementation Cohort.

Selected communities can access up to $100,000 in project funding to implement climate adaptation initiatives addressing risks such as wildfire smoke, extreme heat, flooding and drought.

Participants will also build practical skills in project delivery, governance, stakeholder engagement, equity integration, communications, and monitoring and evaluation.

Only five positions are available.

📅 Expression of Interest deadline: October 30, 2026
📅 Projects may begin June 2027 and must be completed by May 2029.

Local democracy depends on municipal autonomy.

When the province overturns a local planning decision, every municipality should take notice. Recent provincial intervention in Edmonton’s zoning bylaws has raised concerns about local democracy and set a precedent that could affect municipalities across the province.

It’s no secret that municipal leaders hold a wide range of views when it comes to housing, zoning, roads and bike lanes. But councils listen to residents, hold public hearings and make decisions based on what works for their communities.

Local democracy and municipal autonomy go hand in hand.

What were Albertans hearing about during Convention week? ABmunis’ 2026 Convention generated significant media attention, putting key municipal issues such as infrastructure, governance, public safety and economic growth in the spotlight.

Several resolutions presented by members generated news coverage. One of the most widely covered called for the provincial government to direct 10 per cent of its budget surpluses toward critical municipal infrastructure projects. The proposal brought attention to a challenge many municipalities face every day: communities are growing, infrastructure is aging and local governments need reliable funding to keep pace.
