🎓 School's Out for Summer!

Congratulations to students across Edmonton on completing another school year. Whether you're moving on to a new grade, graduating, or simply looking forward to a well-earned summer break, today is a day to celebrate your hard work and accomplishments.

With schools letting out and many families heading out to celebrate, drivers can expect more activity on the roads, in neighbourhoods, and around parks and playgrounds. Please take a little extra care, slow down, and watch for children, cyclists, and pedestrians.

From all of us at Hammer Injury Law, congratulations to the Class of 2026 and best wishes to everyone for a safe and enjoyable summer.

☀️ Summer Solstice is Almost Here!

Tomorrow marks the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year and the official start of summer.

In Edmonton, we’ll enjoy nearly 17 hours of daylight, with the sun rising before 5:00 a.m. and not setting until after 10:00 p.m. It’s one of the perks of living this far north and a reminder of just how much sunshine our summers can bring.

Whether you’re planning a walk, a round of golf, a visit to the lake, or simply a relaxing evening outdoors, it’s a great time to enjoy the extra daylight.

From all of us at Hammer Injury Law, we hope you make the most of the longest day of the year. ☀️

❓ FAQ Friday: Can family members claim compensation after a fatal accident?

Losing a loved one in a fatal accident is one of the most difficult experiences a family can face. Along with the emotional impact, families are often left with unanswered questions about their legal rights and financial future.

In Alberta, certain family members may be entitled to pursue compensation following a fatal accident. Depending on the circumstances, this can include claims related to grief and loss, loss of care and companionship, funeral expenses, and other financial impacts resulting from the death of a loved one.

No amount of compensation can make up for such a loss. However, these claims can help provide support and accountability during an incredibly challenging time.

If your family has lost a loved one because of someone else's negligence, you do not have to navigate the legal process alone. Hammer Injury Law is here to answer your questions and help you understand your options.

❓ FAQ Friday: Can I still make a claim if the accident was partly my fault?

Yes. In Alberta, being partly responsible for an accident does not automatically prevent you from pursuing a personal injury claim.

In some cases, responsibility for an accident may be shared between multiple parties. This is known as contributory negligence. If you are found to be partly at fault, any compensation you receive may be reduced based on your share of responsibility, but you may still be entitled to recover damages for your injuries and losses.

Every case is different, and determining fault is often more complex than it first appears. That's why it's important to understand your rights before making assumptions about your claim.

If you've been injured in an accident and have questions about your options, Hammer Injury Law is here to help.

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time to learn about and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and MĂŠtis peoples.

It is also an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonization and the importance of reconciliation. By listening, learning, and engaging with Indigenous perspectives, we can all play a role in building a stronger and more inclusive future.

FAQ Friday: What types of damages can be claimed in a personal injury lawsuit?

Every case is different, but injury claims often involve more than just immediate medical bills.

Depending on the circumstances, compensation may include lost income, medical and rehabilitation expenses, future care needs, pain and suffering, housekeeping or home maintenance assistance, and other losses connected to how the injury has affected your life.

A serious injury can affect far more than just your health. It can impact your work, routine, independence, and future plans.

FAQ Friday: Answers to the questions we hear most.

This week’s question: How do I know if I have a case?

It’s one of the most common questions we get, and one of the hardest to answer without understanding the details.

In general, if you’ve been injured and someone else may have been at fault, there’s a good chance it’s worth looking into.

But it’s not always obvious.

Sometimes symptoms take time to develop. Sometimes fault isn’t clear right away. And sometimes people assume their situation isn’t serious enough to matter.

The only way to know for sure is to have a conversation.

A free consultation is an opportunity to ask questions, understand your options, and get a clearer sense of where you stand.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
