We supplied versions of a quality winter sleeping set ups ,and a bunch of warming gear and thermal clothing, to several who were in need. This involved visiting and engaging many homeless, asking and seeing their set up, many were ok( all considered), many declined a better sleeping bag, no one was hoarding, but we sensed a real sharing , supportive vibe. Some directed us to some who were in need, a newly homeless young guy... was on the ground without decent insulation, so a sleeping pad and a better winter bag was welcome and needed... at Victoria Park we met and spent time with several people , one had a duvet , and blanket , and was on a tent floor, so a cot, insulated pad and winter sleeping bag was due and supplied ,a few heaters to those there too. All we engaged, even if not wanting anything, were offered and most accepted, some thermal wear. We all shared some conversations and hoped we relayed care, which was genuine, and seemed appreciated... A group of several tent folk in Dartmouth, while having good tent structures, were on the tent floor, so cots and insulated pads and some warming goods were needed and appreciated ...We learned that many agencies helping are doing a good job for many but some slip through..and many agencies would have stored the gear until their clients had a need vs our desire to have it used asap....The big encampments, have attention and some have support groups..(.still are needs there), but not the ones we were supplying. We were thinking of more urgent needs..it is winter ,ie prevent freezing. Accordingy , we sought out those that seemed on the margins...of margins. We traveled around Dec 24th, and met many people and helped several who really needed it...thank you to all who supported this small undertaking,...part of it was not just supply something or funds as it easy to hand over things and hope it is used soon and as needed.. it was to find those slipping through the cracks of cracks.. amoungst so many that have slipped though the horrible cracks our society has developed.. lets not normalize this ..but keep caring ...
