Are you resilient enough?
Resilience, known as de capability to sustain a successful performance and positive well-being in the face of adverse conditions, and to recover from or adjust easily, is key as you go through the immigration experience. Resilience is a combination of personal characteristics and skills.
There are four key components of resilience: Confidence, Purposefulness, Adaptability and Social Support. I found an excellent tool to measure resilience: the Robertson Cooper's model of resilience: http://www.robertsoncooper.com/our-products/i-resilience-free-report -for-individuals
Immigration implies many losses: lower social status, limited financial resources, loss of the value placed on your certificates and credentials, loss of communication skills. Low resilience will make your life in Canada very difficult, if not impossible. Before thinking on immigrating, work on building your resilience.

I am concerned about something I noticed last week. Speaking with a recruiter of South-Asian parents, he mentioned there is employment discrimination for people with foreign last names. That he passes by resumes of candidates with foreign names. When asked could he, someone with a foreign name do this, he replied it is about being Canadian, that anyone could see he was born and raised in Canada, nd that was what employers were looking for. But as I see it, he could have overlooked his own resume! Sometimes, us immigrants are the worst enemies of other immigrants!
On a party, a lady from African origin asked me to try and see f his son, a one-year-old baby, would go with me. She said he does not like to by held by ladies from African origin!!! when his mom, and himself, have African origin!!! are we discriminating against each other? How can we ask for equal treatment when we are the worst!!
Please comment.
