Biweekly Update: Ontario shutdown and Express Entry shifts 🇨🇦📊

The second half of May has brought critical changes to the immigration landscape. Here is the breakdown:

• Ontario OINP Gone: Effective today - May 30 - all 9 Ontario streams are officially revoked. No replacement system has been published yet.
• Three Draws in Three Days: Express Entry active again. PNP closed at a high 805 - CEC returned at 518 - and French remains the most accessible at 409.
• Work Permit Language Rules: The proposal to require language tests for certain IMP work permits is advancing toward publication this summer.
• Express Entry Overhaul: Public consultations on the massive 2026 Express Entry reforms closed on May 24—the direction toward higher requirements is set.

Processing times also show dramatic swings - with faster inland work permits but growing queues for citizenship and CEC files. If you want clarity on your situation you can book a call 🏔️🤝

Most standard job offers are not automatically valid for Canadian immigration 🏔️💼

An employment contract that says “you’re hired” is great for your career - but it means very little to IRCC if you want to claim extra CRS points. For immigration purposes - your job offer must meet strict legal criteria:

- Continuity: It must be for continuous - full-time work
- Duration: It must be valid for at least one year after you receive your permanent residency
- Authorization: It typically needs to be backed by an approved LMIA or meet specific LMIA-exempt requirements

If your contract is seasonal or has a short end-date - it will not count toward your points. If you want clarity on your situation you can book a call 🏔️🤝

My spouse had a visitor visa refused last year. Does that mean we can’t do spousal sponsorship? 🏔️🤝

The answer is no. A past refusal does not block your path to family sponsorship. These are two completely separate applications with different processing criteria.

However - the details matter enormously:
* Full Disclosure: You must declare the past refusal. Hiding it creates a much bigger issue than the initial refusal itself
* Analyze the Cause: Most visitor visas are refused because the officer wasn’t convinced the applicant would leave Canada
* Strategic Presentation: We can address those past concerns directly in your sponsorship file to ensure it moves forward smoothly

If this is your situation - there is no need to panic - but you shouldn’t just wing it either. If you want clarity on your situation you can book a call 🏔️🤝

There is a lot of talk about French proficiency being a fast route to PR - but a language score alone is not enough 🏔️🇫🇷

IRCC has strict vetting requirements for these high-stakes files. For this recently approved Study Permit - we didn’t just sit and wait for a category draw. We built a comprehensive strategy:

- Dual-Intent: The client’s Express Entry profile was already prepared for the French category
- Meticulous Vetting: The Study Permit was secured on the merit of outstanding financial and educational proof
- Long-Term Path: The client is now moving to Canada with a clear trajectory toward permanent residency

Success in 2026 requires looking at the whole picture rather than relying on a single factor. If you want clarity on your situation you can book a call 🏔️🤝

DIY Immigration to Canada: is it worth the risk? 🏔️🇨🇦

Many people successfully apply on their own. The DIY route is a great option if your background is straightforward and you have over 40 hours to thoroughly research current IRCC policies.

However - the 2026 system has hidden hurdles:

* Policy Shifts: Rules can change while your file is in the queue
* Consistency Checks: Your current data must match every past visa application
* Technical Accuracy: A small oversight can lead to a returned file and a 12-18 month delay

Working with a professional is an investment in efficiency and audit-proofing your history before you hit submit. If you want clarity on your situation you can book a call 🏔️🤝

Every May all I want to do is get outside. But if you are new to the Rockies - there is a lot you need to know before you hit the trails 🏔️🥾

Proper boot fitting, wildlife safety, and knowing what is actually in your pack can make or break your first Canadian hike. That is why I am hosting a small 2.5-hour safety clinic at Fish Creek Park in late May. This is not a guided hike—it is a hands-on workshop covering trail selection and bear safety.

I am keeping the group small with a maximum of 15 people - specifically inviting my clients and people I’ve already spoken with here in Calgary.

- If we have had a consultation before: Just DM me or reply to this video to get on the list
- If you are new here: I am April - a licensed immigration consultant. I help people move to Canada and I want to ensure you enjoy it safely once you are here

Not a client yet? You can book a consultation through my website to grab your slot and get your strategy sorted for the summer. First come - first served 🏔️🤝

Biweekly Update: Major changes to Ontario and BC pathways 🇨🇦📊

The last two weeks have seen some of the biggest provincial shifts of 2026. Here is what you need to know to stay ahead:

1. Ontario Shutdown: All 9 OINP streams - including Masters and PhD - will be revoked on May 30. If Ontario was your plan you need a new strategy immediately.

2. BC PNP Pivot: BC has rebuilt its program around three priorities: Care, Build, and Innovate. The Entry Level stream is officially closed.

3. Express Entry: The May 11 PNP draw saw fewer invitations and a high cutoff of 798. The pool is growing while draw sizes stay small.

4. TR to PR: The 33,000 spots are currently for applications already in the system - no new intake portal has been opened.

Processing times are also shifting with faster work permits but significant delays for visitor extensions. If you want clarity on your situation you can book a call 🏔️🤝

You don’t have to wait for your partner to qualify for PR on their own to bring them to Canada 🏔️🤝

A common legal path is Inland Sponsorship:

Your partner arrives on a visitor visa

You submit the sponsorship application

Once you get your AOR (file number) - they apply for an Open Work Permit

This keeps your family together and allows your spouse to work while the government processes the PR. If you want clarity on your situation you can book a call 🏔️🤝

As a mother - I know the hardest decisions are the ones made for our children’s future 🏔️❤️

On Mother’s Day - my thoughts are with the cross-border families waiting for their immigration “yes.” We often obsess over NOC codes, CRS points, and fees - but the real cost of immigration isn’t measured in dollars. It is measured in lost time.

I have seen mothers celebrate first birthdays over FaceTime due to permit delays. I have heard parents struggle to explain to their kids why they can’t visit family - simply because the bureaucracy is moving too slowly. These are not just “cases” - these are lives on hold.

Every time I push a file through the system - I am not just processing paperwork. I am helping a family buy back their time and get back to the family dinners that make life meaningful.

To every mother navigating a move or a visa application today: I see your strength. Happy Mother’s Day to all the resilient mothers in our community. You are building a future that is worth the wait 🏔️🤝

I get asked this constantly: is CLB 7 in French really more valuable than CLB 9 in English? 🏔️🇫🇷

In the 2026 Express Entry system the answer is yes. Here is why:
• Exclusive Access: CLB 7 in French opens the door to category-based draws where invitations are issued at much lower thresholds than the general pool
• Point Stacking: You receive additional CRS points for both languages meaning you are literally building your score from two different sources
• Breaking the Plateau: CLB 9 in English is a strong score but it leaves you competing against thousands of others with identical profiles

English is essential for life in Canada but if your CRS score is sitting in the 470-480 range French is currently the most effective way to change your trajectory. This is exactly what we go through during consultations to see which language strategy fits your timeline. If you want clarity on your situation you can book a call 🏔️🤝
