A little-known IRCC clarification could help boost your Express Entry CRS score.

If your remote job was genuine, paid, and properly documented, your foreign work experience may still qualify for CRS points, even if you worked from a different country.

For many applicants, those extra points can be the difference between waiting and receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Canada work permit extension approved without an LMIA under the C51 LMIA exemption category 🇨🇦

If you’re looking to extend your work permit in Canada, you may qualify for an LMIA-exempt work permit under C51 if you receive a genuine job offer from an eligible non-profit organization or charity and meet the requirements.

Typical jobs under this category can include:
• PSW / caregiver roles
• ECE positions
• Educational or teacher’s assistants
• Community support workers

Not every non-profit job qualifies. IRCC looks closely at the organization, the position, and whether the work supports a charitable or community-focused purpose.

ALBERTA PNP UPDATE 🇨🇦

AAIP has introduced a major change to the Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) system effective May 26, 2026.

Here’s what changed:

✅ Candidates can now EDIT their WEOI after submission
✅ Editing does NOT reset or extend the 1-year validity period
✅ Candidates can reject invitations to streams they are not interested in and return to the pool before the 15-day deadline expires

Refunds may be available for some applicants 👇

AAIP says candidates who:
• paid the WEOI fee between April 7 and May 26, 2026, AND
• cancelled their WEOI only because edits were needed

may request a refund through the Opportunity Alberta contact form.

NOT eligible for refund:
❌ Cancelling during an active invitation period
❌ Cancelling due to Express Entry profile updates

This is an important update because many applicants previously had to cancel and pay again just to fix errors or make changes to their profile.

Important Canadian Immigration Rule:
If you’re applying for a work permit extension in Canada, this is one of the most important IRCC rules to understand.

If a second work permit application is submitted BEFORE your current permit expires, work authorization may continue until a decision is made on the second application.

But if the second application is submitted AFTER expiry, work authorization can end once the first application is refused.

The timing of your application can completely change your ability to keep working in Canada.

🇨🇦 FRANCOPHONE MOBILITY (C16) DOES NOT automatically make your spouse eligible for a spousal open work permit.

Many people confuse the two LMIA exemption codes.

If you are working in Canada under the Francophone Mobility program (C16), your spouse can only qualify for a SOWP if YOU are working in an eligible occupation and the regular spousal work permit requirements are met.

📌 Simply holding a C16 work permit by itself is not enough.
📌 The spouse’s eligibility is assessed under the spousal open work permit rules (commonly C41), not based only on your exemption code.
📌 Your job TEER category and other IRCC requirements still matter.

Always verify the actual occupation and current IRCC spousal work permit rules before applying.

ALBERTA PNP EDUCATION POINTS ⚠️

Your school and program may NOT automatically qualify for AAIP education points.

Recent Alberta PNP guidance clarifies:

• Your DLI must have RECOGNIZED status
• Authorized or registered status alone may NOT count
• Non-credit and continuing education programs may NOT get points
• Some non-credit programs at recognized colleges may still NOT qualify

Alberta PNP specifically mentioned non-credit and continuing education credentials in its guidance.

Before claiming Alberta education points:
✔️ Check your DLI on the CICIC Education Directory
✔️ Confirm your program is a credit/approved credential

Many applicants are discovering this issue only after creating their AAIP profile.

Express Entry PR: your degree and your job do NOT always need to match.

For CEC, FSW, and many Express Entry applications, IRCC mainly looks at whether you actually performed the duties of the NOC code claimed in your application.

Your work experience, duties, pay records, and employer letters matter far more than having the “perfect matching diploma.”

A lot of applicants get confused about this and panic unnecessarily.

That said, officers can still question cases where the education or background seems completely unrelated — especially if the work experience is weak or poorly documented. Proper evidence is critical.
