🚨 EXPRESS ENTRY UPDATE | Changes begin November 3, 2026

Your Canadian work experience or job offer could carry more weight in Express Entry.

✅ 50, 70 or 100 CRS points for a qualifying job offer in an eligible high-wage occupation.

✅ 20, 40 or 70 extra CRS points for at least one year of eligible Canadian experience in high-wage occupations.

✅ No LMIA required for qualifying Express Entry job offers under the new rules. Work permit requirements remain separate.

Eligibility depends on IRCC’s occupation list—not simply your personal salary. Canadian-experience and job-offer points cannot be combined; IRCC awards the higher applicable score.

Receiving a Canadian job offer can feel like a major step forward—and it may support certain immigration pathways. But it does not automatically guarantee permanent residence.

For Express Entry, job offers have not received CRS points since March 25, 2025. However, a valid job offer may still matter for eligibility under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and certain provincial nominee streams.

For Alberta’s Opportunity Stream, having a full-time job offer is only one requirement. Conditions involving your work permit, occupation, work experience, language, education, licensing and employer may also apply.

Before relying on an offer, review:

✓ The immigration program you intend to use
✓ Your actual duties and appropriate NOC—not only the job title
✓ The employer and job-offer requirements
✓ Your work authorization, experience, language and education
✓ Whether the offer requires an LMIA or qualifies for an exemption

ESDC’s October 9, 2026 update puts Kamloops at 3.6% and Chilliwack at 5.6%—both now below the 6% CMA unemployment cutoff.

Other CMAs below 6% include Victoria, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay and Saint John, New Brunswick.

These locations clear this particular unemployment-rate restriction for applications submitted October 9, 2026–January 7, 2027. All other LMIA requirements apply; approval is not guaranteed.
