We’re proud to share that Laura Hillyer recently spoke at the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association 2026 Conference & Annual Meeting, The Power of Advocacy: 35 Years and Beyond, as part of the panel discussion: Strategic Considerations in Advancing Your SA Claim.

Joined by Robert Hooper and Erika Tower, and moderated by Chelsea Hishon, the panel explored the strategic decisions that can shape the trajectory of a case from the very beginning — including:
➡️ Demand letter or claim?
➡️ Judge or jury?
➡️ Experts or treating practitioners?

Drawing on deep litigation experience, the discussion offered practical, actionable insight into navigating complex files and strengthening advocacy at every stage of the process.

Thank you to OTLA for bringing together such an engaging and thoughtful program.

There are moments when the grief of losing Finlay becomes too much. When I become overwhelmed by it. When I need to step away to regroup my strength. Finlay's Voice becomes quieter, not because I have given up but because there is just no energy to fight in those moments.

Last week I received a message from a parent who has been fighting for better pediatric care in her community for five years. Her words had the power to give me energy, to remind me why I am doing this. With her permission, I want to share her words:

"I wanted to thank you for your help — it truly means so much to me. Advocating for better local paediatric hospital care has been so challenging these past 5 years. So many didn’t respond when I asked for help, you did and I will forever be so grateful to you for hearing my desperation and listening! So many local families are so grateful for what you’re doing, and that’s an understatement!! I can’t tell you how much everything you’re fighting for means to all of us!!”

Kait's message is a reminder that families across Canada have been carrying these fears and frustrations long before Finlay died. Parents have been begging for change, often unheard and often alone.

This is why Finlay’s Law matters.
This is why we keep going.
This is why your voice — every voice — is powerful.

💛 If Kait’s words resonate with you, you can help bring Finlay’s Law to your own local council.
We’ve created a full information package to guide you — how to contact your council, how to request a motion, how to delegate, and how to make your voice heard.

Families like Kait’s shouldn’t have to fight alone.
None of us should.

Together, we can build the change our children deserve.

Did you know? 🤔

Not every injury automatically qualifies as a “personal injury” claim.

In Ontario, personal injury cases typically involve situations where someone else’s negligence caused your injury — like a car accident, slip and fall, or unsafe property conditions.

To qualify, there usually needs to be:
• An injury
• Fault or negligence
• Damages (medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering)

If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies, you’re not alone. Many people wait too long to ask questions — and that can impact their rights.

If you’ve been hurt and aren’t sure what your options are, it’s worth having a conversation.
