June brings several important immigration changes and deadlines that applicants should keep on their radar.

📅 **Important Dates**

🔹 **June 14** – IRCC’s consultation period closes. This is your opportunity to provide input on Canada’s **2027–2029 Immigration Levels Plan**.

🔹 **June 27** – The temporary public policy allowing certain work permit holders to study without a study permit expires. Workers wishing to continue studying after this date may need to obtain a study permit.

🔹 **Ontario** – June marks the first full month under Ontario’s new immigration framework following the revocation of all 9 previous OINP streams.

🔹 **British Columbia** – The Rural and Remote Health Support Initiative opens on **June 15**, creating opportunities for cleaning and security workers in participating communities.

🔹 **Alberta** – Candidates can now update their Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) profiles without paying a new application fee.

🔹 **Quebec** – The family sponsorship application period closes on **June 25**, with decisions under the RSWP expected by **June 30**.

A recent report highlights comments from Prime Minister Mark Carney suggesting that Canada’s recent economic slowdown may be partly linked to the government’s decision to reduce immigration levels.
Following new data indicating that Canada has entered a technical recession, Carney noted that population growth has flattened and even turned negative over the past two quarters. This shift comes after policy changes aimed at reducing the number of temporary residents and slowing overall immigration growth.
According to Statistics Canada, the country’s population declined in 2025 for the first time in over 150 years. The decrease has largely been driven by lower numbers of international students, temporary foreign workers, and other non-permanent residents.
Carney added that while the government’s goal is to build a stronger and more resilient economy, some economic indicators may remain uneven during this adjustment period as immigration levels are recalibrated.
