My name is Reg Moody, a proud descendant of the Heiltsuk and Nuxalk nations. For over twenty years, I have dedicated myself to advocating for the rightful recognition of the Heiltsuk First Nations people and their inherent rights.
It is crucial that we remain steadfast in our commitment to doing what is just and fair for our people. This means holding corporate Canada, as well as the federal and provincial governments, and our own tribal council accountable for their actions and decisions that impact our people and communities.
The 1996 landmark decision by the Supreme Court of Canada in Gladstone holds immense significance for the Heiltsuk people and all other First Nations across the country. The work we undertake is not solely for the benefit of the Heiltsuk Nation; it is meant to pave the way for all Indigenous communities to follow.
As William Gladstone Sr. aptly stated, our efforts must establish a foundation for future generations and ensure that our people receive nothing less than what they are entitled to. Our overarching goal is to safeguard our way of life, ensure the active participation of our people in decisions affecting our territory, and secure a sustainable future for all.
"We are All Here to Stay, and we should have something to say about it," as expressed by the esteemed leader Bob Anderson, encapsulates the driving force behind our pursuit of genuine reconciliation and justice.
