🚨🇨🇦 EXPRESS ENTRY IS CHANGING — AND YOUR CRS SCORE COULD CHANGE TOO!

On October 16, IRCC announced major changes to Express Entry, taking effect November 3, 2026.

Here’s what’s changing 👇

💼 JOB OFFER POINTS ARE BACK!
Eligible high-wage job offers may qualify for 50, 70, or 100 CRS points, depending on the occupation.

🇨🇦 NEW POINTS FOR CANADIAN WORK EXPERIENCE
Qualifying Canadian work experience in eligible high-wage occupations may provide additional CRS points.

📄 NEW LMIA RULES
An LMIA will no longer be required for certain qualifying job offers under the updated Express Entry rules.

🔄 CRS RECALCULATION
IRCC will recalculate existing Express Entry profiles, with invitation rounds temporarily paused during the transition.

⚠️ But here’s the catch:

Not every job offer qualifies. Not every Canadian worker will receive additional points. And having both a qualifying job offer and Canadian work experience doesn’t mean you can combine both sets of points.

🇨🇦 11,288 Express Entry invitations in September. But that’s not the most interesting part.

In just one month, IRCC held 8 draws, with CRS cut-offs ranging from 198 to 734.

Yes, you read that right. 198 and 734 — in the same month. 👀

So, what was really happening?

📊 6,000 invitations went to Canadian Experience Class candidates.
🩺 3,729 invitations were issued across two health-related draws.
🎯 Physicians and senior managers with Canadian work experience received targeted invitations.

But here’s what matters: these candidates weren’t all competing under the same selection criteria.

And that’s exactly why your CRS score alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

🇨🇦 Work permit holders in Canada — there’s an important new option to know about.

As of September 4, 2026, eligible foreign workers with a valid work permit may study in Canada without a separate study permit for a course or program of 6 months or less.

This could make it easier to pursue short-term professional training, certification, licensing or skills upgrading while working in Canada.

But there’s an important immigration consideration: if you study full-time under this temporary public policy, work experience gained during that period does not count toward Canadian Experience Class eligibility or Canadian work experience points under the CRS.

So before enrolling, look beyond the course itself. Consider how studying may affect your work experience, Express Entry profile and long-term immigration strategy.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is waiting until a work permit is close to expiring before seriously thinking about permanent residence.

Your PR strategy should start before the urgency begins.

CRS 198 — and an Express Entry invitation. 👀🇨🇦

On September 3, Canada invited 229 candidates in a targeted Express Entry round for physicians with Canadian work experience.

The CRS cut-off was just 198.

But before comparing that number to CEC or other Express Entry draws, there’s something important to understand:

This draw wasn’t open to everyone in the Express Entry pool.

Candidates had to meet the requirements of the specific physician category — including eligible Canadian work experience in one of the designated physician occupations.

That’s why a candidate with CRS 198 could receive an ITA in this round while someone with a much higher CRS who didn’t qualify for the category could not.

The bigger lesson?

Don’t look at CRS in isolation. Look at which draws your profile can actually qualify for.
