There are cases I choose not to take because I know they won’t succeed in court. There are also times when I advise clients to settle, especially when the chances of winning are very low. Being honest about those realities is part of doing this work with integrity.
But there are also cases where, even knowing the odds, you still show up and do everything you can to protect your client.
Today was one of those days.
I stood in court on a case I knew would be difficult to win. Even if we were able to show that my client did not cause the accident, the legal circumstances meant my client could still be held responsible. That’s not an easy position.... for them or for me.
Still, I took that responsibility seriously. I prepared, I showed up, and I advocated to lessen the impact as much as possible. Because sometimes the job isn’t about winning, it’s about making sure the outcome is fair, reasonable, and not more than what the situation truly calls for.
And today, I’ll take it as a win, because my client sees it as one. They walked out with a few scratches, but still standing at the end of the fight. In this line of work, those small wins matter.
This work isn’t always about perfect outcomes. It’s about honesty, strategy, and standing by your client even when the path forward is tough.
