“As of July 1, homebuyers will need to have a higher credit score to qualify for default insurance, Canada Mortgage & Housing Corp. said Thursday in Ottawa. In addition, a borrower’s maximum gross debt service ratio -- the share of income that goes toward paying all housing costs, including mortgage, taxes and heat -- can’t exceed 35 per cent, down from 39 per cent previously.“

Our federal and provincial governments, as well as public health agencies, are responding, and implementing restrictions in order to “flatten the curve” to help control the spread of the virus.

We are continuing to monitor and assess appropriate responses to the COVID-19 virus. We wanted to send a message updating you on the measures that we are taking at this time and want to assure you that here at SINGH, TUCCIARONE, we put your interests first. Foremost, we are focused on the health and safety of our employees, clients and their families. We have adjusted our regular operations due to the health threat and government instructions. Second, we are committed to our client service and we have put in place processes to continue meeting your needs.

Our staff are working at home as much as possible, this allows us to continue to service our clients. We want you to know that all client information is maintained in a secure, confidential manner at our office. Our staff can access information from our network through a secure connection that maintains the security and confidentiality that you and we expect.

We are restricting in-person interaction with clients and the public, we will be conducting the majority of our business through phone and email. You may be contacted to change any previously scheduled meetings to a phone call; we appreciate your understanding and flexibility.

We are communicating with you via email or phone rather than in person.

While banks and some government agencies have closed or are operating on limited hours, we are continuing to work towards the completion and closing of all real estate and commercial transactions. We are looking for someone smart and pleasant who is a team player and a hard worker with a positive mindset to work as a legal assistant/law clerk to join our office. Currently looking for part time contract position with possible full time hours during summer months.

Ability to answer phone calls and emails and to greet clients. The ability to independently open real estate transactions and complete correspondences with other solicitors, mortgage lenders and clients and to report to clients and lenders. Proficiency with Conveyancer is required, experience with FCT software and Teraview is an asset but not required. You will prepare reporting letters to clients and lenders, promptly following the completion of files. Attend to various post closing real estate law matters. You must have the ability to work as an individual within a team, have a strong personal sense of responsibility and possess clear and developed communication abilities.

Other duties include: bank trips and local deliveries, reception, filing and other general office work. Will need computer skills (WordPerfect/Word) and excellent people skills, as well as valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

A minimum of 6 months of real estate law clerk experience is preferred but not required so long as the candidate does have some experience in real estate law and can independently and correctly open files in the Conveyancer.

Knowledge of Wills and Estates an asset.
