There are so many lawyer fighting for the same work. In the meantime, so many people have legal issues and no one to serve them. This is an access to justice issue. Regular people need lawyers to protect their rights. We need to figure out how to serve regular people. Maybe we need to price our services in an upfront way. Not by the hour. Who wants to talk to a lawyer by email and get a bill for $80.00 (.2 at $400 per hour).

Did your loved one own property in more than one country?

If your parent owned property in more than one location, you may need to make court applications in more than one province or state. For example, if your mom lived in Florida and owned a condo in Tampa and a second piece of real estate in Surrey, then you would need to apply to the court in Florida and then apply to the court in British Columbia. The court will review your application and then give you the right to transfer the real estate into your name as the representative of the deceased. A court in British Columbia can only grant you the right to deal with property in British Columbia.

Friday Law we believe that it is our job to use plain English whenever possible. We avoid using technical terms such as resealing the grant of probate or the grant of administration. We are trying to reduce your overwhelm! We want you to ask questions and not feel like we are using terms that you have never heard before. That is why we say the representative of the deceased and not executor or administrator. We say court application not probate. Our job is to help you navigate your loved one's death with dignity and not confusion.

Who are you planning for? Post a picture below.
We all know someone who died young, yet most parents don’t have a will. As a parent, I understand what it’s like to worry about what would happen if I died in middle age with children still at home. This is why after 18 years in practice, I have developed a simple process to help parents disaster-proof their affairs.

Here’s how I help:
1. Schedule an appointment.
2. Create a will and estate plan.
3. Know your family’s future is secure.

So you can stop worrying about death and start living.

Here are three reasons why I plan. Who are you planning for? Post a picture below.
