I’m Krista, the founder of Clarity Family Law.

After 11 years in a traditional law firm, I wanted to practise family law differently. I had seen how the way legal services are delivered can shape a family’s experience of separation. I wanted to be more intentional about what I offered so families could move through the process with greater clarity and even thrive on the other side of it.

Separation is difficult enough without feeling disconnected from a legal process that affects your family so directly. I wanted to create a firm where clients are informed, involved, and at the heart of the decisions being made about their lives and their families.

For me, good family law advice starts with making sure you understand what you’re dealing with. What are your options? What does the process actually look like? What could each decision mean for you and your family?

Education first. Advice second. Your decision, always.

That philosophy has shaped Clarity from the beginning. My job isn’t to make decisions for you. It’s to give you the information and advice you need to make good decisions for yourself and your family.

Outside of work, I’m part of a blended family with my husband, my two boys, and our cat. We love camping, being outdoors, and spending time together as a family.

If you have questions about separation or you’re simply trying to understand your options before deciding what comes next, that’s exactly what our free consultation is for.

Sometimes the best place to start is simply with a little clarity.

Meet Sarah, Krista Lidstone’s Executive Assistant at Clarity Family Law.

Sarah is the person helping keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. From coordinating appointments and managing calls to keeping communication organized, she helps ensure every client feels supported from their very first interaction with Clarity Family Law.

Sarah brings warmth, organization, and a calm presence to every interaction. She helps create a seamless experience for clients while making sure Krista has the support she needs to focus on providing thoughtful, personalized legal guidance. When you’re navigating one of life’s more challenging seasons, having a familiar and caring point of contact can make a real difference.

Sarah is often one of the first people you’ll connect with, and she’s here to make the process feel a little more organized and a lot less overwhelming.

Outside the office, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband and their three boys, preferably somewhere sunny and outdoors, and doing her best not to feel outnumbered!

We’re so glad to have Sarah as part of the Clarity Family Law team.

Meet Kate, our paralegal at Clarity Family Law.

If you’ve ever submitted paperwork and wondered whether anything was going to fall through the cracks, Kate is the reason it doesn’t.

She keeps the details in order so that every client moving through a legal process feels the steadiness of a team that has it handled.

That might sound like a behind the scenes role but when you’re going through something as significant as a separation, knowing that someone meticulous and genuinely invested is managing your file matters more than people realize.

Kate brings both the technical skill and the heart to this work. And at Clarity, that combination is exactly what we look for.

Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family and making the most of the outdoors, whether she’s hiking or out on the water paddleboarding.

We’re glad she’s on the team.

And if you’ve ever worked with us, you’ve felt her impact even if you didn’t know her name.

Many people assume separation means lawyers fighting on opposite sides of a courtroom, nasty letters going back and forth, and unpleasant interactions at every turn.

But Collaborative Law offers a different path, one where the goal is not to win, but to take a team approach to solving the legal issues and reach an agreement that works for your family.

Each person has their own lawyer, but there is no courtroom, no judge making decisions about your future, and no strategy built around ambushing the other person.

Instead, everyone works toward a practical resolution, with both parties involved in the decisions that will shape their family’s future.
For many families, that can mean greater privacy, more constructive communication, and a healthier foundation for moving forward.

If this is changing what you thought was possible for your separation, reach out to Clarity Family Law for a free personalized consultation.

The most common questions I get around separation are:
"Where do I start?"
"How do I start?"
"How do I know what's right for my situation?"

That's exactly why I created the Smart Start package designed to give you clarity on your personal situation without diving deep into the legal process or fees right away.

It includes:
✔ Legal information tailored to your situation
✔ Two legal advice sessions
✔ A session with a Neurosomatic Intelligence Practitioner

That last one might surprise you, but it's one of the most important parts. Separation can feel overwhelming, and when your brain is in stress mode, it's hard to take in information clearly or make decisions with confidence.

The stress support session gives you practical tools to calm your nervous system, so you can actually process your options and get the most out of your legal sessions.

If you're not sure where to begin, Smart Start is your next step.

You might not know whether you want to separate. You might just have questions.

What would separation actually look like for our family? What happens with the kids? The house? Our finances? What should I know before making any decisions?

You don’t need to have the answers, or have made a final decision, before speaking with a family lawyer.

In fact, a consultation can simply be a chance to understand your options before you’re under pressure to make them.

We regularly meet with people before the hard conversation has happened, while they’re considering separation, or when they’ve only just started talking about it.

Getting legal advice at that stage doesn’t mean you’ve decided to separate. It means you’re giving yourself the information you need to make informed decisions about what comes next.

That’s exactly what a first meeting can be for: information, options, and clarity.

If there’s a question that’s been sitting in the back of your mind, that’s reason enough to ask it. You don’t have to be in crisis to get clarity.

Going through a legal process doesn’t pause the rest of your life. You still have to sleep, show up for your kids, go to work, and get through the day.

These are a few simple, practical tips for handling that part.
The part we don’t talk about enough: how to quiet the spiral, protect your emotional wellbeing, and stay grounded when the timeline, and so many other things, feel outside of your control.

Because the truth is, some of the hardest moments during separation aren’t about the law at all. They’re about the uncertainty. That uncertainty is something we can help with.

When our clients understand what to expect, what happens next, and where they are in the process, we often see some of that anxiety shift. It may not disappear, but things can start to feel more manageable, and the legal process can take up a little less space in the rest of your life.

If the unknown is the hardest part for you right now, let’s talk. Our consultation is free because sometimes the first thing you need is a little clarity.

I built Clarity Family Law on the belief that resolution can be peaceful.

The kind of experience I wanted to provide my clients wasn’t something I felt I could create in a traditional litigation-focused law firm, with constant court deadlines and high-stress environments.

So in 2022, I started Clarity Family Law.

I wanted to intentionally create the kind of environment I wanted to work in—but more importantly, a calm, supportive space where my clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to focus on resolution instead of conflict.

Better resolutions begin with better, more human processes.

When most people hear “family law,” they immediately think of divorce or going to court, yet it covers more than that.

It’s about helping people navigate some of life’s biggest transitions with clear information and a plan that works for their unique situation.

At Clarity Family Law, we focus on helping families resolve matters out of court whenever possible. We believe the best outcomes are the ones people help create themselves, not the ones decided for them.

This is why we also offer services like our DIY Divorce Kit, Smart Start Separation Package, mediation, collaborative law, separation agreements, and cohabitation agreements. We also provide most of our services on a flat-fee basis, so you know the cost upfront and can make decisions with confidence.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your situation falls under family law, swipe through this guide. You might be surprised by the options available.

If you’re still not sure where to start, that’s exactly what a consultation is for. Sometimes the first step isn’t making a decision. It’s simply understanding your options.
