That's a wrap on our Seventh EU Competition Law Conference! 🙌

Thank you to everyone who joined us at De Warande in Brussels for a packed day of discussion on the most pressing issues in EU and US competition law, from technology-enabled cartels to the future of digital markets regulation.

The conference kicked off with a digital keynote by Mark Meador, Commissioner of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, setting the scene for a transatlantic conversation.

Three panels explored key challenges in competition enforcement:

🔹 Panel 1 on "The Invisible Cartel" explored the challenges of detecting and prosecuting technology-enabled coordination, with insights from Alison Jones, Ilaria Fanton, Professor Renato Nazzini KC and Jason Murray.

🔹 Panel 2 tackled unilateral conduct in a complex regulatory landscape chaired by Thomas De Meese, with Damien Gerard, Geneviève Borremans, Dr Liza Lovdahl Gormsen and Andy Gavil.

🔹 Panel 3 dived into the new era of merger scrutiny, chaired by Marieke Van Nieuwenborgh, featuring Marta Janek-Jecker, Joost Vandenbossche, Peter Broadhurst and Rebecca Valentine.

We closed with a fireside chat on the future of digital markets regulation, led by Bill Kovacic and Andy Gavil, with Lucia Bonova and Mike Walker.

A big thank you to our co-hosts King's College London and The GW Competition Law Center, all our speakers, and especially Karel Bourgeois and Benjamin Geisel for making this conference happen. 👏

🎉 Welcome to the team, Ben Calloens!

We are happy to announce that Ben recently joined our Brussels office as an associate in our Competition team!

Ben graduated from Ghent University and holds an LL.M. in European and International Business Law from the University of Vienna. Before joining Crowell, he gained valuable experience through internships and legal roles at leading firms and institutions, including the Belgian Competition Authority.

And what was his biggest takeaway? "After working on the abuse of dominance and state aid provisions through law school, I assumed the hard part was understanding the law. As it turns out, the hard part is knowing which law to apply and making a convincing case for it."

We are delighted to have Ben on board and can't wait to see him put this into practice. ⭐

🎉 Welcome to the team, Lukas Croonen!

We are delighted to welcome Lukas Croonen as an associate in our Intellectual Property team!

Lukas recently completed his Master of Laws at KU Leuven, building on a Master's in Economics, Law and Business Administration. With a keen interest in intellectual property, sports law and particularly sports-related IP matters, and hands-on experience through internships in IP, corporate and sports law, Lukas is a fantastic addition to our team. Having already interned with us last summer, we're happy to now have him on board full-time.

Lukas was also just sworn in at the Brussels Bar, a proud milestone to kick off his career. Congratulations, and welcome to the Crowell Pond! 🦆

It was a real pleasure to welcome Noure Akki, who joined our International Dispute Resolution team as a summer intern this July! 🌟

Noure proved to be a fantastic addition to the team: curious, driven, and eager to dive into the world of arbitration.

During her internship, she focused on complex dispute resolution matters, conducting research on a wide range of legal topics and drafting memorandums.

⚖️ She also had the opportunity to contribute to a significant filing — a great hands-on experience across the board.

We are happy to spotlight Marie Vandenberghe, who joined our Intellectual Property Practice Group as a summer intern this July! 🌟

Marie quickly became a valued member of the team: engaged, dedicated, and always with a smile. During her internship, she contributed across a broad range of intellectual property matters, as well as privacy and procedural issues.

⚖️She also drafted legal documents, including a complaint and a cease-and-desist letter, and assisted in preparing presentations.

🎉 Meet Thanasis Christou, who joined the Brussels office as a Jurist in our Cybersecurity and Data Protection practice group!

Thanasis brings a strong academic foundation and valuable hands-on experience to the team. He holds an LLM from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, with a Specialisation in Law and Technology, and a Bachelor's degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
