It was a real pleasure to welcome Noure Akki, who joined our International Dispute Resolution team as a summer intern this July! 🌟

Noure proved to be a fantastic addition to the team: curious, driven, and eager to dive into the world of arbitration.

During her internship, she focused on complex dispute resolution matters, conducting research on a wide range of legal topics and drafting memorandums.

⚖️ She also had the opportunity to contribute to a significant filing — a great hands-on experience across the board.

We are happy to spotlight Marie Vandenberghe, who joined our Intellectual Property Practice Group as a summer intern this July! 🌟

Marie quickly became a valued member of the team: engaged, dedicated, and always with a smile. During her internship, she contributed across a broad range of intellectual property matters, as well as privacy and procedural issues.

⚖️She also drafted legal documents, including a complaint and a cease-and-desist letter, and assisted in preparing presentations.

From April through June Ella d'Armancourt left her home country France to join our Brussels competition law team for a 3-month internship.

From EU antitrust research, co-drafting client alerts to preparing (oral) presentations — Ella consistently exceeded expectations. She brought sharp thinking, dedication, and a wonderful energy to everything she did. 🌟

🎉 Meet Thanasis Christou, who joined the Brussels office as a Jurist in our Cybersecurity and Data Protection practice group!

Thanasis brings a strong academic foundation and valuable hands-on experience to the team. He holds an LLM from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, with a Specialisation in Law and Technology, and a Bachelor's degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Thanasis will focus on cybersecurity, data protection and privacy matters across the EU regulatory landscape. A fantastic addition to our growing team in Brussels!

🎉 Thank you to everyone who joined our latest Crowell Café!

Yesterday, we welcomed clients and contacts to our Brussels office for a session organized by Crowell & Moring’s Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI), focusing on Pay Transparency — Equality at Work: Myth or Momentum?

Crowell's Cecilia Lahaye outlined the legal framework of pay transparency. Keynote speaker Delia Mensitieri delivered eye-opening insights on pay equity many of us hadn't considered, sparking a lively debate. The audience was polled on bold statements like:
▪️ "A company with no gender pay gap is, by definition, a fair employer."
▪️ "When a man and a woman do the same job but he earns more, that's the indication of discrimination."
▪️ "As long as caregiving responsibilities remain unequally distributed, real pay equity will remain unattainable."

🌿 Our Brussels Corporate-Commercial, and Labor & Employment groups recently traded the office for the Walloon countryside, gathering at the charming Les Sorbiers for their annual retreat.

Over two packed days, Emmanuel Plasschaert, Frederik Van Remoortel, Evelien Jamaels, Aubry Daerden, Eric Montens, Cecilia Lahaye, Ward Overlaet, Anass Arbage, Sofiane Fergali, Safia Saissi and Marie Demuynck combined cross-practice strategy sessions and breakout discussions with time outdoors — including kayaking 🛶 and a beautiful walk along the river.

The perfect way to recharge and grow stronger as a team 🙌

Last week Medicines for Europe hosted the 20th European Legal Affairs Conference in Athens! 🧬💊

Two days of engaging discussions on pharmaceutical policy, IP, patent and SPC legislation, competition law, and more. 💡

Kristof Roox chaired the session on "The SPC and the Biotech Act: what makes a good industrial policy?" — tackling the proposals to extend the SPC and to correct the SPC manufacturing waiver.

Jurgen Figys, Christopher Dumont, Eline D'Joos, and Mark Remus also headed to Athens to enjoy the excellent exchange of ideas and to connect with fellow legal and regulatory professionals across the pharmaceutical industry.
