The escalation of the conflict in the is once again putting pressure on international trade routes. Tensions around strategic corridors such as the Red Sea are forcing vessels to reroute, causing delays and increasing transportation costs.

For many companies, this raises a crucial legal question: can a force majeure clause be invoked?

Force majeure may apply when an unforeseen event beyond a party’s control prevents the performance of contractual obligations. Geopolitical conflicts and sudden disruptions to trade routes may fall within its scope, but this largely depends on the wording of the contract, the applicable law and the notification requirements.

A misinterpretation can lead to breach of contract and liability.

A-Law India 🇮🇳 Desk Meets Ambassador of India H.E. Saurabh Kumar

On 27th of June 2025 A-Law COO Mr. Thomas De Beule and A-Law Legal Counsel India Mr. Adv. Vikanth Kamalakanthan had the pleasure and honour to have a meeting with the Ambassador of India H.E. Saurabh Kumar. They discussed areas of collaboration to further promote trade and investment between Belgium and India.

The meeting also served as a follow-up to A-Law participation to the Royal Economic Mission to India from 1-8 March 2025 headed by HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium organized by Belgian Foreign Trade Agency (BFTA), FIT - Flanders Investment & Trade, hub.brussels and Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX).

A-Law in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 🇪🇹 !

A-Law participated to CBL ACP Economic Mission to Ethiopia from 1-4 June.

During the Economic Mission there was also a moment to discover the rich history of 3,000 years of imperial rule and the important role that Ethiopia has played and still does in uniting the African continent.

Mr. Thomas De Beule COO A-Law was interviewed by the National Press Agency with questions on the preparation and expectations of the Economic Mission to Ethiopia. He answered that he was amazed with the High-Level engagements and that I was a pleasure to be in Ethiopia to network with counterparts and finds way to promote cross border business development.
