Last night our team attended the Central Coast Family Law Pathways Network dinner, connecting with family law and legal practitioners we have worked alongside over many years.

Many of these practitioners have supported our clients, supported our Centre, and provided care and advocacy for our community along the way. With the Family Law Pathways Network funding now ceasing, it was important for us to attend and acknowledge those connections and contributions.

This week is Volunteer Week, we want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers - both those who are with us today, and everyone who has given their time to our Centre over the past 30 years.

Our volunteers are often the very first point of contact for people who reach out to us - and that matters enormously. The care, compassion and warmth they bring to every interaction helps ensure that the work we do reaches as many people as possible.

We simply could not do what we do without them.

Last week WE assisted some community Elders to facilitate a cultural immersion day for staff of one of our Alliance partner Organisations, Central Coast Community Legal Centre

Attendees gained a deeper understanding of culture and connection to the land on Darkinjung Country.

Central Coast Community Legal Centre is a community-owned, community-run, not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to stand with our Central Coast community to help them face and overcome legal challenges in their lives.

Today we farewell our Aboriginal Youth Community Navigator, Zac McEwen.

For over two years, Zac has been a dedicated and valued member of our team consistently showing up for community, often even beyond his working hours.

Zac has also been an active member of the Youth Leadership Program with Barang Regional Alliance Guyung Minig, and was recognised as Emerging Youth worker of the Year at last year’s Youth Action Conference, an achievement that reflects his passion, leadership, and drive.

We are incredibly proud to see Zac take the next step in his journey as he joins the Australian Defence Force. While he will be greatly missed, we know he will continue to make a positive difference wherever he goes.

Wishing you all the best, Zac.

Racial vilification is unlawful in Australia and it has no place in our communities.

Last week our team took part in filming submissions with Barang Regional Alliance against racism, violence and hate. The booing of Uncle Ray Minniecon, a respected Elder and service man and other First Nations elders around the country yesterday is deeply disappointing and something we stand firmly against.

Australia has clear obligations under national law and international human rights conventions to protect people from racial hatred. Yet too many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to experience racism, violence and hate.

The federal inquiry into racism, violence and hate of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people remains open. We encourage everyone to make a submission and have their say.

Everyone deserves to live with dignity, respect, and freedom from racism.
