Family breakdown and parental alienation are major risk factors for su***de.
Approximately one million children live in separated families in Australia. More than 80% of these children live mostly with their mums and 50% spend little or no time at all with their dads.
Men account for 3 out of 4 deaths by su***de. Half of separated dads experience thoughts of suicidality post separation and more than 10 male su***des a week are directly linked to relationship separation and family breakdown. Children who lose a parent to su***de (especially boys) are at more than double the risk of ending their own life also by su***de.
Hope Family Cottage (Opening in Wyong on 1 December 2021) will provide support for families experiencing trauma as a result of separation/breakdown by providing a home like environment for Mums, Dads and children to enjoy time together at when they no longer live together.
Keeping families connected is our absolute core purpose, and in doing so, we aim to reduce stress, separation anxiety, depression, isolation and su***de amongst Mum's, Dad's and sadly, children too, on the Central Coast.
We acknowledge the strong link between parent-child contact, custody battles and parental alienation upon separation anxiety, depression, isolation and su***de in Australia. With affordable and timely access to our Family Dispute Resolution service we hope to reduce the risk of poor mental health and su***de.
Every child deserves to have a relationship with both of their parents. Keeping families connected means Mums, Dads and children need to stay alive.
Your donation to the IRIS Foundation (100% tax deductible) via this post will provide much needed funding to support them as they deliver early su***de intervention programs for children aged 10-12 in primary schools here on the Central Coast. 🙏
