It is important that the affidavit contains all evidence that is relevant to your matter and the evidence you wish to rely on during the proceedings.

Welcome, Audrey and Paige!

In September, we welcomed two new members to the BFL team. Audrey Clynk and Paige Grant join us as Reception and Administration Assistants. Their skills and enthusiasm add to our already very strong legal support team, helping us continue to provide attentive and efficient service to our clients.

Audrey is currently studying a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at UWA, with plans to commence the Juris Doctor in 2027. Outside of work, she loves going to the beach, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

Paige is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce at Notre Dame University, with plans to pursue a career in the business sector. Away from the office, she enjoys Formula One, sewing and spending time with friends and family.

Welcome to the team 💜

Happy International Coffee Day!

In the legal profession, strong arguments matter but strong coffee certainly helps. For many lawyers and those working in law, caffeine is less of a beverage and more of a vital support service, fuelling early starts, busy days, and the occasional meeting that really could have been an email.

Today, we raise our mugs to the unofficial lifeblood of the legal world. Whether your order is a flat white, long black or something with enough syrup to require its own disclosure schedule, we hope it keeps you powered through the day.

Here’s to good coffee, clear thinking and getting through the to-do list, one cup at a time ☕️

Last Thursday, we were proud to host Vincent Papaleo, Andrea Vergara and Jaclyn Freeman from Papaleo Associates for an enlightening and thought-provoking seminar on neurodivergence in family law, with a particular focus on the lived experience of neurodivergent children.

The presentation explored why a neurodivergent child may resist or avoid spending time with one parent. What can appear to be rejection or unwillingness may in fact, have complex emotions involved. It reinforced the importance of listening carefully to the child’s words and behaviour, considering their individual needs, and avoiding assumptions about any single explanation.

Thank you to Vincent, Andrea and Jaclyn for sharing their knowledge, experience and practical perspectives with our team. The seminar was a valuable reminder that family law requires curiosity, empathy, and an individualised approach, one that keeps the child’s voice, wellbeing, and experience at the centre of the family law process.

Supervised time is an arrangement where time between a parent and child takes place with a third party present. The supervisor may be a responsible family member or friend agreed upon by the parties, a person chosen by the court, or a trained professional from a supervision agency. Their role is to observe and support the visit, help maintain appropriate boundaries, and promote the child’s safety and wellbeing throughout the time together.

Supervised time may be considered where there are concerns about a child’s safety in a parent’s care, where a child has not spent time with that parent for an extended period, or where a neutral person or setting is needed to help contact occur safely and comfortably. It may take place in a contact centre, a community setting, or another agreed location, depending on the child’s needs and the terms of any parenting agreement or court order.

If you have questions about supervised time, parenting arrangements, or how an existing court order applies to your family, we are here to help.
