FUNDRAISING HOLE IN ONE FOR COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS
The final tally is in for the annual Hawks Nest First National Police and Community Charity Golf Day with $20,000 to be donated to local causes and the region’s rescue helicopter.
As the town’s longest running charity golf day, the annual event has raised more than $250,000 over the last 20 years for local charities, families in hardship and essential services with this year’s major recipient to be the Tea Gardens Primary School P&C Association.
“Öur annual Charity Golf Day is a way for the Police to say thank you and give something back to the community”, said Senior Constable Trent Moffat.
“Every dollar raised is donated to local causes. The Police don’t receive a cent and through the help of local business owners and community members who spend hours volunteering, we don’t incur any administration costs.”
This year’s list of recipients are:
Tea Gardens Public School P&C Association - $10,000.00
Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Pre School - $2,500.00
Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens Boxing Club - $2,500.00
Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service - $5,000
“The P&C Association works tirelessly to benefit hundreds of families and this donation will provide a much needed boost to their fundraising efforts to buy new equipment for local students.” Senior Constable Moffat said.
“The Rescue Helicopter has always been a recipient in some capacity. Many of us go back to the days when a trip to hospital was an hour and a half away down a single lane highway. The helicopter has been a integral part of our community and saved so many local lives.
“Our other recipients, the local community pre-school and the local boxing gym are volunteer organisations with limited funding and we’re proud to lend a helping hand.
The annual event moved to Good Friday in recent years and continues to attract a full field of golfers.
“Our committee members are all keen golfers, members and sponsors of Hawks Nest Golf Club. We appreciate the club’s support and for the opportunity to showcase our world class course and bring a full field of golfers and their families back to the 19th Hole.”
“Most importantly, the day raises much needed funds for great causes which makes it all worthwhile”.
