"...Bryant’s lawyer Paul FC McGirr VA BM said an appeal had already been lodged with the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal, and added “a lot of police and members of the community will be shaking their heads at this decision”.
“This decision fails the pub test,” he said.
“The court has found my client should have known the young person wouldn’t stop – even though he didn’t know how young he was.
“My client should have known the young person would try to mount the lane … that he would lose control, fly through the air and hit a police car that was coming to a stop.
“I don’t want to add grief to the family, a life has been lost. I’m not trying to rub salt into the wounds, (but) if people were at home, not doing home invasions and stealing vehicles, we wouldn’t be here.
“This tragedy could have been avoided.”
