Where does risk arise for strata managers, and what can professionals do to protect their business and reputation?

Our Partner, Peter Ton, explored these questions during the Principals Stream: Risk, Responsibility and Reputation session at the SCA (NSW) Convention on Wednesday 23 September, alongside Mitchell Lipscombe, Chief Operating Officer at BAC Insurance Brokers.

Peter drew on real legal cases to highlight how liability can arise and shared practical strategies for managing risk through better documentation, communication, governance and decision-making.

Combined with Mitchell's insights into professional indemnity insurance, the session gave attendees a practical legal and risk-management perspective on navigating complex situations before they escalate.

Great to see Peter sharing his expertise with the strata community.

We’re proud to be at the SCA (NSW) 2026 Convention!

It’s been fantastic to connect with colleagues, clients and industry leaders at one of the NSW strata community’s key events, sharing insights and exploring the issues shaping the future of our profession.

This year’s theme, Protecting What Matters. Shaping What Comes Next., is particularly relevant as the industry continues to navigate changing responsibilities, expectations and risks.

We’re especially proud to see our Partner Peter Ton contributing to the program as a presenter in the Principals Stream session, Risk, Responsibility and Reputation alongside Mitchell Lipscombe, COO of BAC Insurance Brokers. The session explored the legal, financial and reputational risks facing today’s strata professionals and provides practical insights into liability, professional indemnity and protecting both businesses and clients.

If you’re attending the Convention, be sure to say hello to our team. We look forward to connecting with you!

VIC OC managers: it may be time to review how your Final Fee Notices are generated.

A recent VCAT decision has highlighted the importance of individually itemising arrears, rather than relying on lump sum “balance brought forward” amounts. For owners corporations and managers, the decision could have significant implications for existing debt recovery processes and the software used to prepare notices.

Our latest article explains the key findings, what they mean in practice and the steps OC managers should take when pursuing outstanding arrears.
