Four letters decide whether your advice is even legal: MARN
"Consultant" isn't a protected word. Anyone can print it on a door.
Only two groups can lawfully give Australian immigration assistance:
1οΈβ£ A registered migration agent, holding a MARN
2οΈβ£ An Australian legal practitioner with a current practising certificate
Since the rules changed, legal practitioners no longer need to hold a MARN to give immigration advice - so a lawyer without one isn't a red flag. A "consultant" with neither is.
Nepcoms has both registered agents and legal practitioners working across our files π€
How to check anyone, free, in 3 steps:
1οΈβ£ Go to the OMARA public register
2οΈβ£ Search their name or [MARN]
3οΈβ£ Confirm their registration is current
Before you pay anyone a cent, search their name on the OMARA register.
