Have you ever found yourself awake at 2:00 a.m., running through every possible โ€œwhat ifโ€ in your head about your business?

Let me tell you, you're not the only one.

That late night spiral is usually your brain trying to protect what you've built. Which is exactly why crisis management for small business is not something you leave until you're already in the middle of a mess.

On this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast, Iโ€™m joined by crisis management expert Sally Branson (founder and managing director of the Sally Branson Consulting Group ), and the message is crystal clear.

๐Ÿ”ท Crisis planning is not about being dramatic or expecting the worst. It's about being prepared. The same way you wouldn't go on a hike without water and a map, you shouldn't be growing a business without a basic crisis management plan. Because when something goes wrong, you don't rise to the occasion. You fall back to whatever systems you already have.

Crisis management for growing businesses isn't a nice to have. It's part of building something that lasts. ๐Ÿ’ซ

So if you've been putting off crisis planning because it feels like something for bigger companies, take this as your sign. You donโ€™t want to miss this episode.

Start small. Get your basics in place. Build your buffer. Tighten your risk management. Because when the crisis comes, you'll be glad you did.

If you have ever looked at your business and still felt that little whisper of doubt, you are not alone. I have had so many conversations with women in business lately who are doing impressive things, yet still questioning whether they are truly successful.

Imposter syndrome has a way of making even the most capable female entrepreneur feel like she is falling behind. So, today on the Rise Up in Business podcast, I want to zoom out and talk about the bigger picture.

Women-led businesses in Australia are not just surviving. They are shaping the economy. ๐Ÿ’ซ

I have hit seven years in business, and it feels like the right moment to celebrate what women business owners in Australia are building.

Since 1991, female business ownership in Australia has increased by more than 77%. Women now own over 35% of small businesses in Australia.

That is not a small statistic. ๐ŸคŽ That is a massive shift in Australian entrepreneurship, and it deserves more airtime.

You are part of a powerful movement of women-led businesses in Australia that are changing the game. Dive in to this episode with me to hear the numbers that prove it. Letโ€™s keep celebrating, supporting, and backing women entrepreneurs, because this is bigger than any one of us.

Independent contractors versus employees has been a hot topic in my inbox lately.

I sent an email to my list about it recently and the response was loud and clear. A lot of business owners are growing their teams, feeling the pressure of getting it right, and wondering whether contractors are the โ€œeasierโ€ option.

๐Ÿ”ท Sometimes they are. Often they are not. Either way, this is one of those areas where a small mistake can turn into a big, expensive problem.

Growing a business is worth celebrating, but only if your foundations can hold it.

No two businesses operate the same way, and deciding whether someone should be a contractor or an employee is not a vibe-based decision. It is a legal classification, and the ATO and Fair Work Ombudsman take it seriously. Misclassification can lead to back pay, unpaid entitlements, superannuation issues and penalties. In other words, it is not something you want to guess your way through.

In this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast, I'm sharing why this is one of those areas where getting advice early is far cheaper than cleaning it up later and what you need to know. ๐ŸŽง Listen in via the link below.

Have you ever sent out a client contract and felt that little flicker of unease? ๐ŸŒ€

Not because you can point to one obvious problem, but because something about it just does not feel right. If that sounds familiar, you are absolutely not alone.

In this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast, I unpack why that feeling shows up for so many business owners, and what it usually points to: a lack of clarity.

If you are sending out an agreement you do not fully understand, or one that does not properly reflect how your business actually works, that shows. And when there is a lack of clarity, confidence disappears quickly. Not just for you, but for the client reading it too.

This is where tailored contracts matter so much and you'll hear me explain why. ๐ŸคŽ

If your contracts have been feeling a bit off lately, this episode is for you. Trust that instinct, it's usually telling you something important.

Growing your team is a huge milestone.

It usually means the business is moving, demand is growing and you are stepping into a new season. But it is also one of the riskiest stages of business growth if you do not get the legal foundations right. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Hiring employees or engaging contractors might feel exciting, and it should, but it also comes with real obligations.

In this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast, I unpack why these responsibilities can create serious problems if handled casually.

As always, I take the view that prevention is better than cure in business. ๐Ÿ’ซ

So if you are preparing to grow your team, I walk through three of the most common mistakes I see business owners make, why they matter, and how getting it right early can save you a significant amount of stress, money and clean-up later.

Team growth is not only an operational milestone, but a legal one too.

The other night, I found myself sitting in my living room asking a simple question: Does success look like this?

And for the first time in a long time, the answer came back clearly. Yes. It does. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Twelve years ago, I would have given you a completely different answer.

Back then, success looked like urgency. It looked like rushing to court, taking late-night client calls, working under pressure, and wearing the chaos of litigation like a badge of honour. I was ambitious, driven, and completely immersed in my career.

At the time, I thought that was what success was supposed to look like. I had associated success with productivity. Running on adrenaline, being rushed off of my feet, barely having any time to breathe but thatโ€™s not success, that's crossing the line of burnout.

In this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast, I talk about the cost of that version of success, the moment everything shifted, how to ask yourself better questions and what success looks like for me now. ๐Ÿ’ซ

I hope this conversation inspires you to take a moment to really pause and reflect because sometimes the most powerful shifts do not come from doing more. ๐Ÿ’ก They come from being honest enough to admit that your definition of success might need to change.

Client disputes are one of those things every business owner deals with eventually.

Not because you are doing a bad job, but because business involves people, expectations, pressure and money.

๐Ÿ’ก In this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast, I'm talking about the real goal, which is not avoiding disputes altogether, but stopping them from turning into a drawn-out, energy-draining saga that hijacks your business.

Iโ€™m also sharing a simple framework to resolve disputes early.

Misaligned expectations are the number one fuel source for disputes, so the more clarity you build in upfront, the fewer fires you will be putting out down the track.

The big picture here is simple. The faster you get calm, get clear and get into a process, the more likely you are to resolve the dispute early and protect your time, energy and reputation.

Trust and credibility are the real competitive advantage in business.

Not your logo. Not your latest offer. Not even your pricing.

Letโ€™s face it: potential clients can compare you to ten other businesses in under five minutes. Trust is what makes someone choose you, pay you and stick around. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

The good news is you do not need to be the loudest or the flashiest to build trust. You just need to be consistent, clear and professional in the places that matter most.

In this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast, I'm sharing the foundations I always come back to; how to get them right, keep them current and treat clarity as part of your brand.

Trust is not built in one big moment. It is built in a hundred small ones.

In this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast, I bust one of the biggest myths I hear on repeat: โ€œIโ€™m just a small business, so I donโ€™t need properly tailored legal documents.โ€ ๐ŸŒ€ That sentence makes my heart skip a beat, and not in a good way.

There is nothing โ€œjustโ€ about running a small business.

In my early years working in litigation and dispute resolution, I spent a lot of time in court watching businesses fall into conflict over contracts, or the lack of them. It was truly eye-opening.

Big companies can absorb mistakes. They have in-house legal teams and financial buffers. Small business? They do not.

For you, your legal documents are the bedrock. They hold up your client relationships, your cash flow, your boundaries and your ability to grow without constant stress. ๐ŸคŽ

So if youโ€™ve been telling yourself, โ€œIโ€™m just a small business,โ€ flip that thinking and join me to discover why templates can cost you more than you think, and why properly tailored legal documents help you convert prospects, protect your margins and show up as the premium choice in your field.

They are not an optional extra. They are part of running a professional business.

Burnout doesnโ€™t usually arrive with a dramatic crash. It creeps in quietly; one extra client, one more late night, one more โ€œIโ€™ll rest after this deadline,โ€ and โ€œjust one more email.โ€

In this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast, I'm joined by the incredible Mia Poklepovich, who is an occupational therapist and business coach. We discuss what burnout really looks like, why it happens to high-performing business owners, and how to build a business thatโ€™s sustainable, not just successful.

Mia shares her story which is both inspiring and deeply relatable. Like most professionals, she found herself caught in the cycle of overdelivering and overcommitting, and burnout became the catalyst for change. Mia is an Occupational Therapist and Director of and her work delivering effective, sustainable mental health services in remote areas throughout the Northern Territory is impactful and inspiring; as is her community the Freedom Therapist Club - a platform for therapists, health professionals, and practitioners who want to create large, businesses that make a tangible difference without burnout.

๐Ÿ’ซ Join us for this insightful and empowering conversation where Mia shares her experience and knowledge around the role of alignment in business success, trusting the process (and yourself) and key lessons to avoid burnout in business.

I'm excited for you to tune into this episode. ๐ŸŽง Listen in via the link below, and thank you so much for joining me Mia. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
