We want to celebrate Awer Mabil who has been named the Young Australian of the Year for 2023.

Awer spent the first 10 years of his life in a refugee camp in Kenya. As a boy, he made his own footballs using plastic bags, clothes and balloons.

Awer went on to realise his dream of becoming an international footballer. The celebrated Socceroo is also the co-founder of Barefoot to Boots, an organisation that focuses on helping refugees in the areas of sport, education and health.

This is some well deserved recognition!
