Our Principal Carmine Santone was invited onto the ABC's Law Report programme with Damien Carrick. He discussed a case we ran recently in the Personal Injury Commission, which concerned whether certain conduct occurs in the course of employment such that it falls under workers compensation legislation. We have succeeded with a $500,000 settlement for the family of a client who was the victim of a tragic motor vehicle accident. Darren's story highlights the numerous issues in the transport industry today.

According to the most recent figures from Safe Work Australia, 58 transport workers were killed on the job in 2019 – 95 per cent in road freight – making it by far Australia's deadliest industry.

Companies operating in the gig economy are facing increased pressure to adopt fair workplace practices. Whilst some businesses have implemented changes, others still have a long way to go.

Critics of the independent contractor model that dominates the gig economy latched onto Menulog’s move, saying it showed any company could employ its workers directly.

Dear friends and family,

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to all those who kindly donated towards the Bike Ride for Brain Cancer. Unfortunately due to the torrential rains and flooding in the Hunter, the event didn't go ahead quite as planned.

Carmine and I have signed up to do the Mudgee Classic (170km) in a few weeks, to honour our training commitment to this very important cause.

Santone Lawyers matched all of your donations by contributing a further $2,300 towards the cause.

Some important information about where your fundraising dollars will go...

- Unlike virtually every other cancer, survival rates for brain cancer have not improved since the 1950s.
- brain cancer is the biggest cause of cancer deaths in people under 40, including children.
- around 900 people died of Covid-19 in Australia last year. 1,800 people died of brain cancer. It generated one mention in the media.

Thank you all again for your generosity.

Hello friends,

In less than a week, we will be heading up to the Hunter Valley again on an epic 250km, two day bike ride, for a very worthy cause – fundraising for brain cancer.

Day one we will be departing from Waitara Station at around 6.30am and travelling up the Old Pacific Highway via the punishing Mt White, all the way to Wollemi and onto the Hunter. Day 2, we’ll be riding all around the Hunter for another 100km.

Training has been hard this year. Most weekends it’s been raining, and due to kids’ weekend commitments, we’ve had to do many gruelling and lonely, solo rides. We have taken on the “3 gorges” (Bobbin Head, Berowra and Galston) many times now and finally conquered my fear of playing chicken with the traffic on the Pacific Highway.

The event was cancelled last year, so apart from the personal training goals, we’ve also got some fund raising goals.

Brain cancer doesn’t attract a lot of publicity or other fundraising and sadly the survival rates of children and adults from this form of cancer lags behind others. There is much to be achieved from research.

If you could spare a few dollars to support me and this worthy cause, please donate via the link below.
