How are you, really?

Today is World Mental Health Day, a reminder to take a moment and reflect on how we are really going 💙

Mental health can shift from day to day, and sometimes we do not realise how much we are carrying until we stop. Making space to notice how we are feeling, or to genuinely ask someone else how they are going, can make a real difference.

This week, our people joined Rachel Clements founder and Director of Psychological Services at the Centre for Corporate Health, for a Neuroscience of Wellbeing session exploring how stress, attention and recovery affect our energy, focus and wellbeing.

Today is a reminder that looking after our mental health can start with something simple: noticing, connecting and making space for what we need.

October is Mental Health Awareness Month, a reminder to pause, check in with ourselves and each other, and make space for mental wellbeing.

Mental health isn’t static. Sometimes the signs that we are running low can be subtle, from finding it harder to switch off to feeling more tired, distracted or overwhelmed than usual. We often notice when someone else isn’t quite themselves. It is worth noticing those changes in ourselves too.

This month, take a moment to ask yourself: How am I actually going?

At G+T, we’ll be doing the same, with a range of mental health awareness activities and events designed to encourage connection, conversation and wellbeing.

Last week we had the privilege of taking part in a volunteering morning with DV Collective supporting the important work they do alongside frontline domestic violence services across Australia.

Domestic and family violence is a significant and deeply concerning issue in our community. DV Collective works alongside frontline domestic violence services to provide practical assistance and resources that support women and children experiencing domestic and family violence across Australia. We were grateful for the opportunity to contribute in a small but tangible way to this important work.

After hearing from DV Collective, The Reconnect Project and a senior counsellor from a Sydney women and children’s refuge, our team got hands-on — preparing therapeutic art packs, assembling crockery and cutlery packs for people moving into transitional housing, and cleaning and resetting donated mobile phones for distribution to people rebuilding their lives following crisis. These practical activities may be simple, but each contributes to the broader support available to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence at an incredibly challenging time.

We’re grateful to DV Collective and the frontline organisations who shared their insights with us, and to our G+T volunteers for giving their time, care and energy to support this important work. 💙

Five hours. Plenty of kilometres. One great cause 🚴.

Our G+T team took part in Spin 4 Kids in Barangaroo, joining teams from across Sydney for five hours of cycling and fundraising in support of children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.

Together, our two G+T teams raised more than $7,700 for Variety - the Children’s Charity NSW & ACT.

A career in law should not depend on where you go to school.

That is the idea behind Launchpad 2 Law, a new initiative established by Ashurst Perkins Coie, Clayton Utz and Gilbert + Tobin to broaden access to the legal profession for students across rural and regional NSW.

The program brings lawyers, universities and corporate partners into regional classrooms, giving students the chance to hear directly about studying law, career pathways and the opportunities available to them.

It also provides practical support beyond the classroom, including nine $10,000 scholarships each year, mentoring, university application resources and an annual Scholars’ Day & Dinner in Sydney.

The first school visits have already taken place in Wagga Wagga, the Hunter, Bathurst and the South Coast.

We are pleased to be part of an initiative focused on making the pathway into law clearer and more accessible for students in rural and regional communities.
