Visa & Citizenship Lawyers were contacted by A Current Affair to comment on the circumstances of a woman, who moved to Australia 15 years ago and shortly afterwards had a child who is now an Australian citizen.
Due to a chain of events, the woman is now holding a bridging visa which expires in a few days, at which time she will become an unlawful non-citizen liable to be put in immigration detention and removed from Australia, separated from her Australian citizen daughter who requires full-time care and daily medical support.
The woman's pathway to permanent residency is complex as she has previously been granted a visa through Ministerial Intervention.
