The Regional Presidents and the Councillors of the Law Society are in Orange for this month's meeting - with a focus on Access to Justice and Fit-for-purpose Courts. We had a fascinating tour of the Orange Courthouse yesterday, which is partly heritage listed but has also been sympathetically renovated with a smart and functional modern addition so it now has 3 courtrooms and a permanent sitting judge in the criminal jurisdiction. It is essential that ALL courthouses, and particularly the regional ones with the vast distances practitioners and the community often need to travel to attend, need to be up to date with all technology for streamlined legal processes and with safety and security for all attendees. Tonight I attended the Jewish Opening of Law Term Service at my own synagogue, as I do every year now. Some passionate speakers were heard and some lovely synagogue rituals were shared as well as prayers for the community at large. A big emphasis of course on equality and tolerance, given the current disappointing climate we are currently experiencing. A wonderful evening all round

What a great night we had at our April meeting!

We welcomed Brett McGrath, President, and Kenny Tickle, CEO, of the Law Society of NSW. It was great to have lots of our members meet them and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Then we had a very special presentation to our very own President, Sarah Newman, who clocks up 25yrs legal practice this month! Congratulations Sarah - what an amazing achievement! 👏👏

A couple of the Regional Presidents and I hosted a booth at the Law Society's Law Students Careers Summit at the ICC yesterday. An impressive event ... today's students are so lucky to have resources life this. Notwithstanding having no free stuff to give away (except Law Society pens and notebooks), we drew a constant stream of curious students allowing us to spruik our message that you don't have to work in the city, the "bush" can provide a fabulous work life balance with a very broad choice of work. Alternatively there's always the 'burbs. Thanks to my fellow RP's and Councillor, we had a great evening
