NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

📣 New Child Safety Laws - Victoria

📣 New laws start on 1 January 2023, including stronger penalties for organisations that do not comply with the Child Safe Standards.

The Commission for Children and Young People Victoria will have more powers to assess and enforce compliance with the Child Safe Standards.

Some of the key changes are:

✅ New powers for officers including the ability to inspect organisations’ premises without notice, to assess compliance with the new Standards

✅ New enforcement actions including official warnings, court injunctions, enforceable undertakings and the ability for a regulator to publish details about an organisation’s non-compliance

✅ The introduction of a range of criminal offences and increased maximum penalties for non-compliance with notices and directions issued by the Commission.

Our Child Safeguard training team, Marco Blanco & Monique Frendo, recently delivered our half day Child Safe training workshop for Belgravia Leisure staff at Whitlam Leisure Centre.

Our specialised workshop covered key Child Safe areas on:

✅ Recognising the signs of Child Abuse

✅ Responding to disclosures

✅ Understanding Child Safety legal obligations

✅ Implementing the Child Safe Standards

🎉 2022 Theme: Inclusion, For Every Child

On 20th November we celebrate World Children’s Day to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare.

November 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.

It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
