Mortlock dairies have two summer students going back to high school, and an opportunity has opened up for a trainee.
Mortlock dairies are a new entrant into dairying, having commenced dairying in April 2019. The farm is milking 1500 late Spring calving cows. The farm is technology focused;
GEA software going into the dairy currently (milk meters, cell count etc...)
Grain mill with 300ton of storage.
5000ton of silage in a pit.
Feed pad and mixer wagons
Large shade structure has been recently constructed.
Autodraft, new yards going in at the moment.....
60 stand rotary.
Close to new machinery.....
Traineeship to begin 1/02/2021
Trainee will be paid a minimum of $1,000 per week for a 12 month traineeship (trainee will get over-time, will get 4 weeks annual leave fully paid, sick pay, superannuation and workcover), and will also complete a certificate 3 in Dairy from Shepparton Tafe. Training is a 12 month course, will consist of on-farm training and some off farm (chemical handling etc....). Trainee's will also get tutelage of off farm consultants in nutrition, agronomy and veterinary from time to time as these consultants visit the farm.
Ideally this leads to a long career in the business, with a structure allowing for the trainee to progress through the ranks of management within the business.
Accommodation is available (if required) at $100 per week in an adjoining leased house.
The role will involve;
milking
Feeding (mixer wagon)
Rearing calves
Cropping- sowing, spraying, fert spreading, watering.
Assisting with joining.
The business has a 1350 acre winter crop paddock (Cornella Vic) that grows cereal for the dairy. There is capacity to be involved with the broadacre cropping as well.
Ideal candidate- you ideally grew up on a dairy farm, are school leaver or a few years out. You are motivated, you like a fast paced hard working environment. You are eager to be trained and will successfully grasp the concepts that you are taught. You get along well with others and will add to an enjoyable work environment for others. You like animals.
