The GCDLA would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Rita's family, friends and colleagues. We offer our thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.

Gold Coast Solicitor since 1980, Rita Derek has recently passed away. Rita was first admitted into the legal profession in 1979 and practiced predominately in Family and Defacto Law, Compensation Claims and Civil Litigation. Rita was an excellent solicitor, a wonderful lady and a loving wife.

As a former insurance loss adjuster and SES field volunteer, our principal has seen damage that could have been prevented. It may be too late to update your insurance but at least clean those gutters and de-clutter the yard.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland Household Worker Insurance is cheap as chips, for peace of mind re cleaners, nannies, babysitters, house sitters, gardeners, handyperson contractors with their own ABNs (who could be an individual sole trader).

"Do you ever hire a cleaner, babysitter, gardener or similar? Directly paying workers to help in or around your home means you could be considered an employer, even if the worker has an ABN.

If someone you hire is injured while working for you, you may be liable for costs relating to their injury, like medical expenses or weekly wage payments if they can't work while recovering.
